2 player variant with Baltar

By RedMageStatscowski, in Battlestar Galactica

Don't you think Baltar is a little overpowered in the 2-player variant? And for some odd reason only Boomer is banned from 2-player.

Baltar, if he's not a cylon, he can look at the only other player in the game and see what side the other player is in. If he is a cylon, he can use it anyway to disguise his true allegiance.

I think Baltar should be banned too from 2-player, tell me what you think.

Not really, no.

If Gaius is a cylon, there is no other cylon.

If Gaius is human and player2 is human, you find out for sure. A turn wasted, but freedom to xo all over the place. Good for you, but the game is now fully co-operative, who's going to object?

If Gaius is human and player2 is cylon, you've discovered that there is a frakking toaster in your midst. Good jorb. Still, that frakking toaster now *knows* that you know, and has a turn to reveal or attempt to brig *you* without you being able to do anything to stop them. Since the character probably isn't already in the brig, damage done. And Gaius has to pay one of his turns to do this.

True them, and any cylon would be happy to 'waste' 1 turn to disguise himself as well as let the cylon ships come unharrassed for a turn.

Guess I'll be using him a lot then.

"I scan you!"

"I reveal!"

Doesn't seem like much of an issue to me.

Yes, Baltar is powerful in the 2 player game. So is Tigh, for that matter. Boomer can't be involved because she goes to the Brig at the Sleeper Agent phase. In most games I've played in (with up to six players), she rarely gets out of the Brig unless she's a Cylon.

Back to Baltar. Yes, his ability is powerful with two players. But there is an ability to mess with the Cylon Detector in the crisis deck. And if you're playing as a Human and Baltar doesn't scan you, that's tantamount to his admitting being a Cylon. With Baltar's disadvantage, he's always the first suspect to be a Cylon. With Tigh or Cain you can Brig/Airlock/execute him rather easily, especially in a two player game. Since he's likely to be President in a two player game, however, he can pull some dirty tricks from the Quorum deck as well.
