Operation Wagner - Battle at Lohengrin Point

By cruiser2710, in Star Wars: Armada

From the Admiral's log book -

In view of intelligence report on Rebel activity at Dover Sector, Fleet Command has activated Operation Wagner to intercept and interdict the Rebel supply line leading in and out of Dover Sector. Order of battle for Operation Wagner is as such -

  • ISD Bismarck the Relentless
  • GSD Prinz Eugen the Demolisher
  • 1st Squadron 1st Interceptor Fighter Wing (TIE Interceptor)
  • 22nd Valkyrian Guard Bomber Win (TIE Bomber)
  • 2nd and 3rd Squadrons 66th Guard Fighter Wing (TIE Advance)
  • Agent Fett and Agent IG 88 from B-Deinst

Both Prinz Eugen and Bismarck sailed in an echelon formation with squadrons taking station fore of Bismarck.

Our deep space scanners detected a force of 4 Rebel ships coming out from hyperspace at Lohengrin Point. Order was given for the fleet to enter line abreast battle formation. Bombers were ordered to take station in between Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. Our fighters were ordered to take station off Eugen's starboard. The Rebel fleet dropped out of hyperspace shortly after. The enemy fleet consisted of ships identified to be MC 80 Prince of Wales, AF2 Renown and CR 90 Electra and CR90 Vampire. Hood and Prince of Wales deployed with their broadsides facing our fleet while both CR 90 deployed off the starboard bow of Eugen.

The order to engage in precision fire was passed on to all units. The enemy's opening moves involved in having both their CR 90 doing a high speed flanking run while their heavy units continued to move line ahead. Meanwhile, our ships continued to maintain course and speed. At the same moment, Fel ordered all squadrons, including the 2 B-Dienst agents to close in on "that big bastard up forward"

Seeing that the AF2 was in range, Agent Fett and Agent IG 88 were ordered to deliver the opening shots to her stern. The initial attacks by both B-Dienst agents were followed up by the 22nd Bomber. The newly installed Kurmark Boosted Comms system directed the 22nd. Reports from the 22nd indicated that the bombing run was successful. To maintain distance from the MC 80, Bismarck was ordered to drop her speed.

Prinz Eugen moved in for the attack on the Renown's stern. The attack inflicted minimal damage. Renown returned fire onto Prinz Eugen which scored devastating results but not enough to outright destroy her.

Following that, Fel ordered all fighter squadrons to come up astern of Renown in order to maintain the pressure on her.

Seeing that Prinz Eugen posed a threat to the Renown, Prince of Wales delivered the coup de grace on Eugen. Fortunately most of the crew managed to escape and were later rescued by Bismarck. 22nd Bomber were ordered to close the range and conduct bombing runs on Prince of Wales' starboard side. Bombing runs by Rhymer and his 22nd withered the starboard shields and dealt debilitating damage to Prince of Wales. Meanwhile, due to heavy attacks by our fighters, Renown took on a course that would lead her away from Prince of Wales. Renown failed to participate in the engagement from than on.

Despite the blazing AA fire from Prince of Wales, the effect was negligible. Prince of Wales continued on her course and speed and ended up running into the waiting fighters. Fel ordered all fighters to carry out strafing runs and rocket strikes on Prince of Wales. Rhymer's 22nd were again ordered to deliver attacks on Prince of Wales causing her to take massive amounts of damage. Waltrud Kuprinski bomber squadron delivered to the coup de grace on Prince of Wales.

During the dying moments of Prince of Wales, our scanners detected escape pods being ejected from Prince of Wales. However, very few were launched as a massive explosion ripped Prince of Wales into 2 with much of her fore section being obliterated. Fel ordered all fighters to cease fire and not shoot at the escape pods. This was emphasised again by Wing Commander Gundula Rall.

By now, both Electra and Vampire had completed their long flanking run. Seeing how Prince of Wales was obliterated by our air wing, Electra signaled to Bismarck that she wish to surrender. A surrender signal was passed on to Vampire from Bismarck but was generally ignored. Both Vampire and Renown escaped into hyperspace. Electra was than ordered to rescue the survivors from Prince of Wales and a prize crew from Prinz Eugen was transferred over to Electra
