Sacrificing Bran with a Duplicate

By Rick IsLitFam, in Rules Questions

If I sacrifice Bran--in accordance with his game text--and he has a duplicate, does his ability still trigger and does his duplicate then take his place? Or, can you sacrifice Bran's duplicate to use his ability?

Thanks!

1) A duplicate gives you, the player, the option of discarding it from play to save the character from leaving play. It has no other properties.

2) If you save Bran from leaving play, which is part of the cost (sacrifice bran TO ...), then part of the cost would have been prevented and the effect does not occur p5 : (xxIf any part of a cost payment is prevented, once

all costs that can be paid are paid, the process of initiating the ability or marshaling/playing the card immediately ends without further resolution.)
3) Bran's ability requires you to "Sacrifice" Bran anyway, which specifically cannot be saved from (rr p18 "xxA sacrificed card cannot be saved.").

So if you choose to initiate Bran's ability, he will be sacrificed and you cannot use duplicates to save him. He (and his duplicates) will end up in your discard pile.
