troll and heroes

By MarcinW, in Battlelore

As troll hits on helmets only, can he ever defeat any hero? If (albeit strange) we interpreted battle savvy as giving SoS from troll as hits, than his attack against hero is overpowered (unless hero can hit him on SoS as well). What are Your thoughts on this topic?

I would think that anything that doesn't hit with a Sword on Shield acts in the same way as ranged weapons are indicated in the Heroes expansion, i.e. they work against Heroes (but not their troop if acting as a Leader) despite the rules on the Weapon card - or Creature card in this instance :) ..

Referring to the battlesavvy rules, a troll can´t hit a hero as long as he is as a leader attached to any unit. If the hero acts as a champion, the troll is able to hit him with SoS symbols. So he better doesn´t take the troll alone ... gui%C3%B1o.gif

Thats how i´d interpret the rules.

Edit: ...Sirvolkar was faster ^^

so, wizard against troll has 1/6*1/6 to kill, opposite 1/6? pretty ok for me (but I'd rather hit troll on SoS with heroes as well)

A bit of this is clarified by Richard Borg's answer in the Fireballs versus Heroes thread . The key statement is: Range weapon troops and other units that do not normally score a hit when a Sword on Shield is rolled in melee, will still force a casualty check against a Champion when one or more Sword on Shield symbols are rolled in the melee.

Basically, heroes don't get "hit" like other troops, they take "hero casualty checks" (HCC) under certain circumstances (page 5 of Heroes ).

1. As a Champion, he takes a HCC when one or more SoS are rolled. This is despite what the weapon card states because the HCC rules override it.

2. As a Leader, he takes a HCC when one or more SoS are scored against the troop . I think that last word is key. If the SoS does not score a hit against that unit type (foot versus mounted, for example), the HCC is avoided.

3. A Leader must take a HCC when the banner bearer of the troop falls. Thus, if the troll kills the last figure, the Leader can be hit.

Plus two other ways that have nothing to do with ranged units...
