What if it's not a Rebel ship?
What if it's one of the Imperial prototypes Incom designed for the Empire?
What if Rogue One "liberates" it, along with some of Incom's engineering team?

Sienar is "requisitioning" it to build a Tie Hunter, Incom flips them the bird and hands plans over to Rebels instead.
It's probably just a stealth intrusion X-Wing, stealing both the plans to the Death Star and the X-Wing would be a lot to stuff in one movie.

Not to mention that there probably wouldn't be enough time to build a squadron of X wings to destroy the death star if the rebels had just finished liberating the prototype for the T-65.

Most likely a bad paint job.
Eh, you know I was never a fan of the "incom technicians defected to the alliance and took their x-wing with them" spiel. I rather like the "those xwings are like at least 10 years old there..." feel from ANH.

20 according to Han in the radio drama, but he could have meant the Y-wings. Which were originally from the clone wars so could totally be 2 decades old, as chopped-up hot rod war surplus.
