The question I have is when using advanced targeting computer on the advanced TIE fighter. The question is, when attacking do you roll the three dice then modify one of the dice, or is it that you have the critical hit and then roll the three dice giving you four dice in total?
advanced targeting computer question
You roll the normal number of attack dice (either 2 or 3) as per usual. You then add a <kaboom> result to the total. Most people represent this by placing another dice on the table with the <kaboom> side up
So, if you were attacking at R2 and rolled a <boom> and <miss>, your final attack result would be <kaboom>, <boom>, <miss>. Your opponent is then free to roll their defence dice as per normal.
As Dr. Zoidberg says, the ATC is just adding a [kaboom] result to the rest of the attack dice rolled. Now that [kaboom] IS subject to further modification. You may not want to alter that result by your opponent may have the opportunity to change it before then.
While I know the result can be modified I am not completely certain that the result could be "rerolled" as a die by something like Tarn w/ R7. I suspect it is as added Evasion results from tokens spent get treated like dice when it comes to things like Autoblasters which look at "dice" rolls.

Tarn/R7 would have no effect on the added <kaboom> result as ATC is a dice modification and the use of R7 would have to be before the <kaboom> result has been added, as defender modifies attack dice before attacker does.
Also worth noting ATC does NOT add bonus dice against locked Omega Leader.

You add that Crit result during your dice modification step.
The opponent has to modify dice first, so they do not have an opportunity to modify your crit result.
Rules Reference page 13: When you add a result, you actually place down a die with that result next to your roll. These dice can be modified, but you can never reroll the same die more than once. There are also some upgrades or abilities that let you modify a die, and prevent that die from being rerolled, e.g. Sensor Jammer.

I'll admit I'm guilty of not paying enough attention to when to result is added in. If added during your dice modification step that will mean the opponent doesn't get the chance to mess with it although it seems you could use Predator to "reroll" it if you desired.
My group and I fudge up the order of things all the time, we gotta keep reminding eachother not to roll defense dice until after the attack dice has been modified. Because you're supposed to modify attack dice without knowledge of the defender's roll.
We also routinely activate ships in the wrong pilot order, sometimes it is simple to go back and fix.
Doesn't help there are exceptions to most rules! Such as Crack Shot cancelling a defender's evade result during the compare results step. It's not a modification by definition, but sure feels like one!

This thread answered my first question, but my next was: does Advanced Targeting Computer really only cost 1 point? You need the TIE/x1 title to field the ATC, and that card reduces the cost of the upgrade by 4 points. I guess I don't get why they would have made the ATC available *only* to the TIE Advanced, but then require a card that reduces the value by 4? Why not just make the ATC 1 point to begin with?
These questions make me think I inadvertently cheated today by fielding 2 such monsters at +1 point each. That auto-crit at short range made mincemeat of my son's ARC-170s.
Because if it was costing 1, then the title would make it cost 0. For it to cost 1 they had to make it cost base 5.
And they wanted to make sure it was only used on TIE Advance.
Because the title isn't intended *just* for ATC. Low PS Advanced prefer other mods like Accuracy Corrector.
Okay, thanks. Really just making sure it was 1 point, and I didn't get 10 points worth of upgrades for 2 points. It seems extremely effective for its cost.
It is ridiculously effective for its cost, until you factor in the fact that you can only use it on the TIE Advance, which is... not.

You can use theTIE/x1 title add other system upgrades at a much cheaper cost. It opens up quite a few possibilities.

it's rather sad that the TIE Advanced fix that every one had been clamouring for since day 1 had such a brief moment in the sun before it was again, outclassed by newer better options

It was designed as ship-specific upgrade, aka FIX thats why it could be 1 pts.

Well i still fly some generic missle advanceds and have fun.
And Vader is just waiting for kylo to arrive. 3 sith list (Vader,Kylo,Palpa) is really strong - tested already.
