Did Starkiller base jump from system to system or Shoot across the Galaxy?

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Abrams keeps the focus where it should be, on the characters. The characters and character development is the story! Don`t make him out to be another Michael Bay!

Why not? He is.

Oh come on, that's really unfair. Bay's done a couple of decent films.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've liked a single thing Abrams has done.

But credit where credit is due, he certainly kept his lens-flare fetish in his pants this time around.

I enjoyed the film but it was very flawed and if I wasn't a Star Wars fan I'd probably have liked it less. There I said it, my desire for the film to be great made a mediocre film seem better.

I'm not a fan of style over substance films, which TFA was, nor do I like "And then..." storytelling, again what TFA was, but the three main characters have a lot of potential so I give it a pass. I won't necessarily be as forgiving with Ep VIII but who knows maybe it will be the ESB of this trilogy. We can only hope.

PS. At least we can be thankful he didn't pull a Into Darkness on us. Had he done that he likely would have been lynched...

To be fair to him, though, as I understand much of that was due to meddling from upstairs. He was just dealing with what he was dealt.

Actually they have some explenations on wookiepedia. Apperantly the shot caused some space-time stuff that made the shot and explosions instantly visible everywhere.

I’m sorry, that scene and that explanation totally and completely exceeds my ability to willingly suspend disbelief. It totally takes me out of the story and the movie.

I just book it under Space Magic TM( seriously don´t think about it or it ruins the fun).

Yup. My fun is definitely ruined in that regard.

I dunno why the explanation of "hyperspace did it" is such a tough pill to swallow. I just liken it to a Fata Morgana, in spaaaace.

Because it's not an answer, it's just a dodge.

If the planets could dodge, then this conversation wouldn't be happening, so that's not true.

It's why death was cured and starships are obsolete in Star Trek now.

Yep.. Those things NEVER happened before in Star Trek. Death has always been permanent. *cough*The Search For Spock*cough*. Commander Data's 300 year old head worked fine too.

Then there are the iconians with there teleportation gateways.

Yep. Defiantly introduced in the new Star Trek movies.

In Tarkin there is a Scene about Interdictors using Mass projectors to pull ships out of Hyperspace.

My biggest flaw with the movie are (after numerous watchings, I give this movie every chance) :

  1. Deathstar 3, which is boring and hardly makes sense in the movie.
  2. They don't tell you what planet they blow up, Negating the need of existance of Deathstar 3 in this movie.
  3. Space Nazis.
  4. JJ. Abrahams.

1: nuff said.

2: Honestly, knowing that you are among the biggest nerds in the cinema and not knowing what friggin planet they blow up in the movie is. Yes, by now I know what's going on, but that is simply NOT in the movie.

3: That scene is terrible. Blowing up the planet of innocent, culture and peace loving Alderaan , being led by the ultimate evil person currently in existance as well as being a Galactic Dictatorship where corruption and evil on a personal level (Moffs) is encouraged somehow isn't evil enough . No, we need a Nazi speech with speakers with a tinny ring and a almost Nazi-Salute. Honestly, Nazi-Germany was nice compared to the Galactic Empire, if only by comparision of actual, literal evil in leadership as well as scale. Yes I said it. Report me or whatever, but this scene makes me sick, and my family lost quite some people during that time.

4. JarJar Abrahams. He took Star Trek and made it more Star Wars. Then he took Star Wars, and made it more Star Wars. At least in Star Wars we can ignore physical impossiblities like seeing explosions through the galaxy, I don't want to trade places with being a trekkie after THAT reboot :D

Apart from that, amazing popcorn movie and a complete testament that nobody wants a good movie, just one that sells.

Could not disagree more.

1) If the technology exists it will be used and expanded upon. It is logical and (somewhat) realistic.

2) you know what they blow up. It is in the #3 you listed. They don't mention the name, sure. Bit how is that to the detriment of the movie? The reason is clear. The purpose of the planet is clear. In fact, you know more about this planet by the time it is blown up then we knew abour Alderan upon its destruction.

3) matter of taste I guess. I liked this scene. It was intense, it was evil and it was a true show of force. I also lost family in WWII and I would never hold this against the movie. Frankly, that is absurd.

4) as is this. Do people still think calling Abrams Jar Jar is witty? Wanna talk about originality? Lead by example.

Honestly it seems more to me like it was a plot hole nobody bothered to address when they were making the film, but since it's so obvious now Pablo Hidalgo is doing his job and providing an in-universe explanation. Star Wars has always been full of post facto explanations better thought out than the source material.

All hail JJ's Mystery Box. The answers you seek to this, and many other plot holes found in TFA can be found within.

Yancy

Wow, this topic sure brings out the funny.

Again for everyone jumping on the JJ hate please find put who Kasdan is and what he means to Star Wars.

Maybe the Brain Eater got Kasdan... this tripe-on-film "movie" would certainly point in that direction.

Got to say while I am not a fan of Abrams, and have some issues with the Force Awakens, it stands like a collossos next to the prequels.

Mind you, and I'll probably get lynched for this, but I prefered Guardians of the galaxy to the force Awakens.

It is possible to dislike something and be a civil grown up around people that do. Wanna try?

Why would uou ger lynched over that?

GotG was amazing.

My only view on Ep7... like Eps 1-3, there were too many 'Yes!People' working on the script, direction, filming, storyboarding etc to turn round and say things like 'Hold on, the residents on this planet can see this (the red Star Killer beam) from where they are? or.. R2 is just gonna wake up with no prompting?

To have Pablo Hidalgo ret-con the script is lazy... it's justifying something that should have been addressed DURING the writing. They needed a Plot Hole Spotter.

People need to 'man up' and take the bull by the horns, or look at the script with a more critical eye. I respect that the Fanboys&girls LOVE all films... but they need to STFU and listen to our greivances as to why we think they (ep 1-3 & 7) suck... even if Palpatine was all powerful.... where were the Precognitions of 100s of Jedi being slaughtered due to Order 66? A crucial/pivotal moment in relation to the number of Force Users in the galaxy.

I don't think I'll be going to see Rogue or Ep 8 at the cinema... I was UNDERwhelmed by Ep7 TBH... I took my son to see it, then went to see it again with my parents - as a nostalgic trip coz they took me to see Ep 4 when it hit the UK screens - as I was sitting there in viewing two these questions and thoughts started.

Ep 7 comes across as a cash grab, no thought in continuation of Star Wars PHYSICS,,,, a bit of reality in a Space Opera setting.

After my first visit there was a younger guy walking out with his mates,,,,, he said 'It's just like Ep4' and he was right. It's just shocking that JJ/the script writers were allowed to get away with it. Lucas has done a good thing, he gave us Eps 4-6 and should just WALK AWAY with a bit of dignity. OK there are things in Ep4-6.... but not on this scale!

Has JJ said he isn't interested in Ep 8? Thank God if he did.

Aftermath should be re-titled AfterBIRTH,,,, I got to page 218 and stopped reading it, I flicked forward to one of the Interludes to read about some blokes mandalorian battle armour.,, dunno the previous owner, but that little vignette is by far the best part of the book.

GOTG is SUPERHERO space opera.... different genre ;)

Easy there, fellas, easy!

I thoroughly agree that a total lack of information on Starkiller Base was very annoying, as well as pulling me out of the movie. I kept wondering where they had gotten the credits to fund the thing. Really, the only good part of having Starkiller Base for me, was having them say "It's a Death Star!"

"Nuh-uh, the Death Star was only about a quarter of its size." :P

Annnywaaay, I think the character building was the best in any Star Wars movie thus far, especially as there were ACTORS in this one. None of the relationships felt forced or implausible to me, and that was definately worth all of it.

Would these be the characters who randomly ran into each other on Jakuul and immediately teamed up, motivated by the magically convenient timing of a First Order attack?

The SW equivalent of the FRPG inn,,, level 1.. let's be adventurers, but we need a plot hook..oops, reason to go off adventuring together,, It's BELIEVABLE in Ep4.. the droids get dropped, they f*** off to find Obi wan,,, LATER.... Luke gets saved by Obi.... LATER... they need a ship, this bloke called Han Solo turns up...LATER..... you get it

I don't appreciatr being told to "stfu" and I dislike being made out to be a "fanboy" just because I disagree with your opinion.

Thus I pressed the report button.

Is it that hard to stay civil when discussing something people like and not cursing/namecalling the people themselves?

Maybe the Brain Eater got Kasdan... this tripe-on-film "movie" would certainly point in that direction.

It is possible to dislike something and be a civil grown up around people that do. Wanna try?

In what way was my post uncivil to you?

Did I say you were uncivil or did I say you were uncivil to me?

The fact you even have to ask...

I've enjoyed most of Abrams' work so far. There's been some plot holes that bug me, but I can enjoy the movie for what it is. Any movie can be picked apart, and Star Wars fans can be some of the most self entitled fans I have ever come across, so it's no surprise to me to see people freaking out about plot holes and railing against anyone who doesn't agree with them.

Ah yes, the good old hoary canard, "you fans are just too entitled". Speaking of uncivil...
