Calculation and Guidance Chips

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

So crazy question if your using both Calculation and Guidance Chips and say you shot off Cluster Missiles would you be able to change 2 dice on each attack if you had 2 focus?

Calculation triggers "when attacking"

Guidance chips triggers "once per round"

so you'd be able to modify a total of 3 of them.

1st shot: calculation and chips

2nd shot: calculation

(or reverse distribution)

chips and clusters don't work together that sucks!!!!!

In what way would it have broken the game to not allow that

They do work, just only on one of the attacks. That's not nothing...

but why did they not allow it to work for both?

Perhaps they playtested it and realized that it was too good?

It surely looks strange that they add a "Once per round" clause to a card that is about buffing ordnance attacks, since I cannot think on any combo in the game other than cluster missiles that allows for more than one ordnance attack in a single round (out of Epic play).

Perhaps a K-wing with Recon Specialist, Cluster Missiles and Guidance Chips would be overpowered without that clause? It would be almost guaranteed 6 hits/crits per ship per round, twice in a game? For 32 points (1 more than naked Ten Numb or Poe).

Blount with tracers and 5 bandits with cluster. That would be 10 attacks. You have 10 hits just from Guidance Chips, then you can spend a focus on 5 attacks. I don't remember enough about probability to calculate it for you, but you will get a LOT of hits with that combo. Decimators and VCXs wouldn't stand a chance. With Once per round they might survive a barrage.

Here is the setup I was thinking about for imp,

Whisper - Veteran Instincts - Fleet Officer (36)
Inquisitor - Calculation - Cluster Missiles - Guidance Chips (30)

You can feed Inquistor with focus and have it for Cluster Missiles. The once per round is a strong only one attack though I appears where missiles are tech two attacks.

This is the full build I want to run,

Whisper - Veteran Instincts - Fleet Officer - Fire-Control System - Advanced Cloaking Device (42)
The Inquisitor - Calculation - Cluster Missiles - Guidance Chips - TIE/v1 (31)
Lieutenant Colzet - XX-23 S-Thread Tracers - Fire-Control System - Hull Upgrade - TIE/x1 (27)

The Alpha Strike from the Inquisitor matched with the auto damage from Lt Colzet should be enough to knock out a ship then. Its at least 1 crit and 2 hits if not more thanks to Cal and Chips. Its important for Whisper to give out focus before Inquisitor goes. IDK I think its crazy enough to work.

But why Whisper and not simply a TIE Shuttle?

But why Whisper and not simply a TIE Shuttle?

I like the Whisper, 5 damage at range 1, Tie Ph has not been played in a while.

Your not my real dad don't question my terrible life choices. :-p

Fleet officer actively shuts down adv cloak

It would have made Cluster Missiles the most dangerous and most cost-effective ordnance in the game, except for a couple of corner cases (generally Soontir-style defenders with 4+ Agility and multiple tokens).

I am just getting back into X-wing after a 2 year break (excuse) I did not even think of that, a free action cannot take place if stressed, mm.

So...it's a bad idea to have one clear winner in a single class of upgrades? ;)

It's still a clear winner with redline :)

Exactly. Cluster Missiles tend to lag a little bit behind other ordnance in the typical case, but once you start stacking multiple dice modifications, they get nasty quick.

Also dengar can currently double tap with munitions and might not end up as the only ship able to do so in the long term of the game so it's quite a bit safer to just restrict to 1x per round and leave it as a very strong fix that is futureproof

These are great ideas thanks guys

I guess it is

Fleet officer actively shuts down adv cloak

Advanced Sensors I guess but you're then paying a LOT to neuter your Phantom's effectiveness in order to buff your other ships.

Advanced Sensors on a Phantom? Lol, why are you paying for 4 attack dice then?

Fleet officer actively shuts down adv cloak

Not everyone wants to play a tournament winning list. :P
