Junk Droids

I'm excited to have a little minion army of junky droids.

It looks like these droids will only be represented by tokens. Which makes me wonder if you are allowed to share a space with them or not.

And if not, I will certainly be busting out some old WOTC Mini droid figures to use for my Junk Droids. GONK.

Another question I have is if an Ugnaught can have more than one Junk Droid at a time, since the wording on his card sas "the Junk Droid" rather than a junk droid.

Those are very good questions.

I too am looking forward to using some of the old WotC figs for them.

It'll be set by component limitations (probably only one, hence the 'the').

I understand why FFG didn't release junk droid miniatures with the set, but could they please release miniatures of them? I really want to have some R4 and R5 droids, though I already do have a number of repainted R2s that I can use for them in the game itself.

Yeah some official droid models would be nice. Since the R2 in this game is a bit larger than the WOTC droids I intend to use. Though I'll probably just use the Gonk droid instead of other astros, and the gonk scale looks fine.

GONK4LYFE

I doubt you will be able to share a space with them, you would treat Junk Droid tokens just like any other ally or villain token in the campaign that you don't have the model for.

Will Junk Droids even be allowed in skirmish tournaments since they wont have a model? This would be a new precedent of allowing tokens in place of figures for skirmish. And then that opens a new can of worms of "can i use figures to represent tokens that don't have figures?

Also, I am fairly sure the "the" on the ╔►Spot Weld means means 1 Junk Droid per Ugnaught, (with component limitations in effect this makes it sound like there will only be one token) but that said, the Elite Ugnaught has a different ╔►Spot Weld ability than the normal. Perhaps it has a different (slightly more powerful) Junk Droid token? Or, since we're getting 3 Ugnaughts in the box, maybe it is a single Junk Droid shared by all 3 Ugnaughts?

Gives me an excuse to buy more R2 units and repaint them.

I read somewhere in one of the articles a reference to "being surrounded" by junk droids. How many does it take to "be surrounded?"

I dont know, more than one would be annoying. I'm just waiting for those Jawas to come out that have an ability "╔►Disassemble: Choose one DROID companion that you are adjacent to. That companion is defeated."

The article mentions new rules for "companions", I suspect the issues with the junk droid tokens will be covered there.

I swear, it looks like the elite version first says "the junk droid token is defeated." Then it repeats the regular's text.

There is both an elite and generic of Ugnaughts deployment card shown in the article. Both cards have the action Spot Weld. I don't see why you would not be able to play both during a campaign mission which means there is likely at least 2 tokens and cards for the Junk Droid.

I can't believe there's no model for it. What are we supposed to do, use R2?

I am REALLY REALLY hoping that there's a reason for it being a token - as in they are stackable. Imaging have three of those things in a single square coming at you.

Wouldn't the scale get on your nerves? If a square is just big enough for one R2-D2 how would several other astromechs fit in it?

Not a chance. It's a token because it's a piece of junk figure that is just a hairs breadth above "unarmed civilian with no abilities". It's only trick is that it can respawn endlessly for just the cost of an action. It's basically not worth/important enough to waste resources manufacturing an actual figure for it.

Poppycock! Hogwash! It it's in Imperial assault and it moves and attacks it should be plastic!

Exactly. As if I would allow a cardboard token on my tiles like I'm some kind of... normal.

I think you're reading it right and that it's saying "use when..." meaning it triggers to replace it whenever one dies.

I don't see "use when" in there, just

Spot Weld: The junk droid is defeated.
Place the Junk Droid companion in an
adjacent space.

I also now notice that the elite version of the ugnaughts has a second special action. "Over...." Something. Possibly overcharge or some such. I'm betting that it flips a junk droid token to the other side and makes it a mobile bomb. Something like "when the junk droid is defeated, roll a die and all adjacent figures take whatever damage is rolled.

That would make the elite's ability to destroy the droid make sense.

Companion rules.... Future kawakian monkey lizards???

Okay then lets hope FFG releases astromech droids later that can be used for something, but are in skirmish packs or such so we can paint some up to be Junk Droids.

My immediate thought when I read the article! Salacious B Crumb!

You could just buy a droids pack and use the R2D2 fig as a stand in for the token. The droid in the picture is a green and yellow R2 droid after all.

I've done that, for nearly all of the R2 units from X-wing. I just really want in scale R4 and R5 miniatures for the game to paint. My Astromech army must grow!

Endor Leia with Wicket!(or generic Ewok).

I would put forth that there is a second Junk Droid (possibly "advanced junk Droid") on the other side of the card. The elite tinker says to destroy the adjacent Droid, then flip it and put it back into play. That's my guess.
