Bespin!

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

We just got shown an expansion that is all scum figures and no imperials besides a villian (ISB are sold separately)... Why oh why do we need another expansion of just that?

The game is called IMPERIAL Assault.

Don't be frustrated my friend, the reason they did that is NOT because Imperials are not part of the new expansion - it's because we ALREADY have a ton of Imperials. They made it a priority to give us a ton of Imperials right out of the gate, and it's not until now that the Scum is starting to catch up. They will definitely make use of the Imperials we already have in this newest expansion.

Also, as you've stated, we are getting these new ISB guys and a new fist-shaking big bad villain. Imagine your disappointment if the only big bad guy was Bossk and there were no new Imperials.

What is Lando's second ability? I can't quite make it out. Anyone....anyone?? And what is his surge? Does it say Hide, Stealth? Hide, Stun?

Smooth Talk: All female characters within 2 spaces become weakened, and all male characters receive 2 strain.

He is

6 pts - 8HP - 4 Speed - Defense: Black - Attack: Green Yellow

+ 2 Accuracy

Surge: Hide, Stun

Surge: +2 Damage

Resourceful: While attacking or defending, you may reroll 1 of your attack or defense dice

Gambit: Before you reroll a die, you may replace it with another die of the same type. After rolling, the new die is considered rerolled.

- Wookies were an enslaved race and you can have as many as you want in the game and show up in many canon material. Enslaved population on a home planet doesn't mean you didn't colonize before and got around, Star Wars revels and Clone wars had a number of ugnaughts walking around.

- Swedish are a peaceful people with a rich culture and they still have freelance engineers. Not all ugnaughts are the same,

Don't be a space racist. :P

And finally, Use R2 or another mini, we didn't get models for "devices" or "terminals", this is no different.

These are good points, but I should've clarified that my complaints are mainly from a campaign point of view. So you’d only be able to bring the wookie warriors as allies if the Rebel players win their corresponding side mission. This makes sense thematically: you help them, they help you. Spamming wookies is a skirmish thing.

Every other unit in the game has some sort of combat experience. R2 and 3P0 are exceptions but they’re main characters and at least their abilities represent them very well.

Ugnaughts just feel out of place as the baddies that come in this expansion. I just don't know why we are getting these guys instead of the ISB agents that are coming out in a separate expansion. They’re walking piglets that annoyed Chewie in that one film!

"Gambit: Before you reroll a die, you may replace it with another die of the same type. After rolling, the new die is considered rerolled."

What the heck does that mean and what's the point?

If you get a re-roLl of the dice (say due to his ability) then you can choose another different coloured dice of the same type (ie, attack or defence) and roll that instead. However, you can't use abilities that let you re-roll on that dice as it is treated as being re-rolled already.

In skirmish, for example, say your roll the evade side of the black dice. You use Lando's ability to re-roll the dice, but due to Gambit you decide to change the black dice to a white dice. Then you play the "Cheat to Win" card to change that white dice to a dodge, rather than than roll the dice. Or if attacking you could change the yellow dice to a red dice, if you know you have the range for the attack already.

Type =/= colour. Type is "attack" or "defence". So no changing a blue attack dice into a black defence dice.

Got it. I thought type was a reference to color.

Where do you get that we can't use abilities off of the reroll?

As, I am quite certain, will virtually everyone else who reads it.

Maybe the Besbin Gambit rulebook defines dice type . Admittedly, having rulebooks list all of the necessary rules hasn't stopped most reoccurring rules questions in the past either.

Glad I didn't paint my core box Trandoshan's like Bossk, now they'll have a leader that stands out.

I thought Lando's ability meant type and it was just a "Pick which dice you like better, rerolled or post reroll". Turning a luck base dice game into your choice win/win (Like any good gambler would)

Why would anyone assume that 'type' was being used in a situation where they've used 'color' in the past (see General Weiss) as opposed to draw a distinction that they hadn't drawn with a single word before?

I just realized the wording for Bossk's Indiscriminate Fire doesn't use the word "attack" anywhere in it.

Yep, for 8 points he seems pretty durable and gets a real attack and a potentially well placed second non-attack :)

Edit: I think he's gonna be fun to play with a Bantha - makes for some really hard decisions for your opponent.

The reason for the odd wording on Lando is probably because some troll argued that Weiss' ability could change to Black or White.

There is no target figure/object, so it could not even be an attack, just like Shock Grenades, Frag Grenades, etc..

Well, that's an odd interpretation when Epic Arsenal specifically talks about "attack pool" and "attack dice".

To be fair I don't know if there is such a thing as "dice type" codified by the rules, it was just a matter of elimination. If dice "type" just meant colour then the ability would do nothing ("Yay, I can change my blue dice for that different blue dice over there), and presumably they wouldn't publish an ability that did nothing (to be fair, some games have done that, so maybe I should say they wouldn't do so intentionally). The only other type of distinction between dice is "defence" and "attack", so that must be what they meant.

As I stated here, picking the same dice colour is usual for something. Though the actual ability is even more useful that you can pick a new dice colour and then choose between probably (hopefully) widely different results.

I bet you the wording came about with some card game player figuring out a weird stacking of abilities with Luke, Lando, threw some CCs for extra defence dice that then he turned into attack to attack while defending or other strangeness to the get us to where we are today.

Exactly. The game has three factions. Each faction should have an equal number of competitive figure options for each combat role. Mercenaries are still far short, and many players would like to identify as Mercenary players. I'd actually say we need more quality generic figure groups in Mercs in addition to the Bounty Hunters. Here we get Wing Guards which may or may not turn out as a strong choice. And honestly, they need better choices for uniques also, and Bossk is definitely a step in that direction.

Essentially, Mercenaries in general simply cannot compete with the others, and we should see them winning about one third of tournaments. And who doesn't want to play the Bounty Hunters in campaign?!

The dice types are "defence" and "attack".

The dice types are "defence" and "attack".

Can you find a rules reference for that?

I looked and can't actually find anything specifying terminology for "dice".
