Advanced sensors

By Grimhorus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has already been discussed before but I wanted to check on here as the FAQ doesn't make any mention. Can you use advanced sensors to perform an action and then reveal a red manoeuvre getting a stress as usual? Are you limited in what you can reveal after as you miss your action phase ( having taken it earlier).

If you reveal a red manoeuvre you skip your Perform Action step. Advanced Sensors effectively reverses the steps and allows you to perform an action, and then reveal a stress inducing red manoeuvre. You can even use Push the Limit to perform an action off you chosen action, getting 2 actions before revealing a manoeuvre. But if you do this, you will gain a stress token, and if your chosen manoeuvre is red, you will have to hand your dial to your opponent (as per the stressed ships and red manoeuvre rule on page 4).

Alternatively, you can choose a green manoeuvre, use Advanced Sensors to perform an action, trigger Push the Limit to perform a second action, gain a stress token, reveal then execute your green manoeuvre, and promptly clear the stress. This is great if you have a pilot that has a free action in their ability, because they may still be able to use it where they couldn't if they were still stressed.

There is no limit on what manoeuvre you can choose if you use Advanced Sensors.

Awesome thank you for that. Made it much clearer.

can you use advanced sensors to perform an action while you are sitting on an asteroid?

Yes, you can. The most common one is usually a barrel roll to get off the asteroid (if you have the capacity to do one) especially if your normal manoeuvre template would still be on the asteroid.

Where is this stated? I see it in an older FAQ (2015) but not in the current one.

If you land on an asteroid, or if your template does then you skip your Perform Action step. There's nothing (other than stress) stopping you from taking an action outside of that step if you can.
