My Real Life Story as a FFG Star Wars Character

By EliasWindrider, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just for the fun of it (and probably related to me turning 40 this week) I decided to see if I could make a FFG Star Wars RAW build path that reflected my life story... and guess what... I could.

1994 Graduated Highschool… character creation

Species: Human

Obligation: Family + 10 xp

Attributes: Brawn 2, Agility 3, Intellect 4, Cunning 2, Willpower 2, Presence 2 (used up 100 starting XP on attributes)

Career: colonist, Specialization: Scholar

Career skills: Charm [1 rank], Deception, Knowledge(Core Worlds), Knowledge(Education) [1 rank], Knowledge(Lore)[1 Rank], Knowledge(Outer Rim), Knowledge (Underworld), Knowledge(Xenology)[1 rank], Leadership, Negotiation [1 rank], Perception [1 rank], Streetwise,

Human free ranks: athletics, medicine

Spent rest of starting XP on rank 2 of Knowledge(Education), talents: Respected Scholar (5), Grit(5).

1994 entered Community College (free ride) as an “engineering science” student

Acquired AoR universal specialization “Recruit” and with it career skills Athletics, Discipline, Survival, Vigilance, put a second Rank in Athletics, 2 ranks in Discipline, 3 ranks in Vigilance, took the basic combat training talent acquiring Brawl and Ranged(Light) as career skills, put 2 ranks in Brawl [studied Karate], acquired Second Wind 5 and Outdoorsman talents (Cross country and track & field)

Acquired AoR specialization “Instructor” (Started tutoring in the Math Lab), I guess acquired Ranged(Heavy) as a career skill but I didn’t put any ranks in it, acquired Conditioned 5&10, and Physical Training 5&15, Toughened 10, Grit 5, and Body Guard 5 talents via Cross Country, Track & Field, and Karate training (By the way in this time period I had 3 percent body fat, for cross country practice on days where we ran combined speed and hills we ran 7 miles, on days where we did distance we ran about 13 miles, races were Saturdays and only 5 miles, we won division 3 nationals both years, I have the gold medal from 1 year, guy 7 on the team, our top 5 guys were all American, second year I didn’t compete at nationals because of an injury), picked up encouraging words talent

Went back to scholar spec, picked up talents Resolve 10, Researcher 10 (right side), well rounded (computers, and mechanics became career skills, put 1 rank in each), natural scholar talent, put a 3rd rank in knowledge education

Went back to Recruit spec, got well traveled 10, toughened 15, Grit 20, Jump Up 20 talents (again Cross Country, Track & field, and Karate)

Graduated Community College in 1996, Entered State University aerospace engineering program

Put 2nd ranks in computers and mechanics, and 4th rank in knowledge education. In scholar, Got researcher 10 (left side) respected scholar 10, codebreaker 15, knowledge specialization 15 (knowledge education) talents,

Continued practicing Karate on my own, put 4th rank in vigilance, got Body Guard 15, and improved Body Guard 15 (I was a little obsessive about never letting anyone I cared about get hurt again, I was not right in the head because of my family obligation), probably got rank 3 in Brawl, I was still tutoring at the university.

1998 graduated with Aerospace engineering degree summa *** laude, won several prestigious national fellowships that I had to choose between. Started Aeronautics and Astronautics masters at MIT (world’s best engineering school). Put 3rd ranks in computers and mechanics, 5th rank in knowledge education, in scholar spec I picked up intense focus(20), Knowledge specialization 20, stroke of genius 25, mental fortress 25, dedication 25 (intellect from 4 to 5), put a second rank in charm, a first rank in leadership. Got master’s degree, started PhD at MIT, made an enemy of rising star assistant department head by finding a mistake in his pet project (a mistake made by one of his students that he asked me to look for, he was very unhappy when I found it), said rising star assistant department head got my funding cut, so I left MIT “all but dissertation” on a PhD (I was the first and I think still only person to have passed the Aero-Astro general exam and not gotten a PhD, the general exam is the exam you take to get out of the program with a PhD)

2003 restarted PhD at state university where I got the bachelors in Aerospace engineering, picked up scholar’s confidence and resolve talents. Instructor’s “master instructor 15”, grit 20, natural instructor 25, that’s how it’s done 25, and dedication 25 (intellect 5 to 6), picked up colonist signature ability “unmatched expertise”, from 2007 to 2009 I taught as faculty (not a teaching assistant), got a PhD in mechanical engineering in 2009.

Then I started working at a government lab, put a 4th rank in computers, bought up most if not all of the upgrades to unmatched expertise. Probably put a rank in Astrogation (from satellite related work), a second rank in leadership, a second rank in negotiation. I think I’ve started on the AOR scientist spec, and picked up knowledge specialization 5, researcher 10, and respected scholar 15.

I'm probably in the process of getting careful planning, dedication (presence), and utility belt (actually my back pack, which among other things contains a measuring tape, flash light, anti radiation pills, aspirin, dental floss, paper clips, pens and pencils, generally 2 bottles of water, wet wipes, a snack, ...).That brings me to today more or less

So apart from 2 to 3 ranks in Brawl, I'm not really a combat focused character. I was kind of expecting to have had some ranks in dodge or defensive stance.
