The new meta: return of the discarded

By Tailsgod, in X-Wing

I've been seeing ALOT of this in the new meta but ships that aren't that good anymore or were never good are getting some more play in this current meta

Hwks are seeing the field

And the Tie Advance are obviously no longer the useless ship they once were

I think most exciting for me though is the return of

Wedge "ace-killer" Antilles to the board with VI and BB8

This current meta seems very heavy in older ships mixed in with the new (which I love)

What about you guys?

What ships are you glad to see make a return?

And what ships do you think need to see more love on the field?

I know t-65 still isn't back with the exception of some of its aces (wedge and Biggs) but I am glad to see the best xwing pilot return to the game and be an actual precense on the board

Biggs with IA is really powerful in this meta and will be even better in the next.

VI Wes Jenson will also be a lot more valuable as a wingman to Biggs. He can strip Target Locks and Evade tokens from almost everyone before they have a chance to fire. That's huge when fighting the likes of Omega Leader, Juking Inquisitor, most TIE Advanced pilots, and the new and improved Colonel Vessery.

Agreed.

VI Wes just switches off a tracer Blount swarm.

I've also seen a few more old x-wings and rebel hwks around. I particularly like Wedge with push and BB8. Makes for some great action economy. Someone at a recent store champs played a fun list with this Wedge, Kyle HWK and Jake. The HWK passed a bunch of focus to Jake who then gets to move in the combat phase and Wedge has the push/BB8 shenanigans. Someone at the same event also ran 3 x-wings (Wedge, Wes and Luke I think?) but didn't do all that well.

:(

I play the Classic Edition only because the Special Edition forces you to use a joystick.

And I don't own a joystick.

:(

I flew Wedge at a store tournament recently. Lost HARD, but that's more because I'm terrible at this game I love, than the T-65 not being competitive. In capable hands, I think it's coming back.

Wedge still really needs Biggs around with him to keep from getting focused down in a single turn, unless your secondary threats are very significant.

I'm toying with a squad that pairs Biggs with R2-D6 and Crack Shot, along with a Draw Their Fire wingman to help keep him alive. Probably Poe with either R5-P9 or R2-D2. Crack Shot's the only EPT that seems remotely useful on Biggs, who can usually survive to fire once but isn't likely to do so more than that.

FFG has done a lovely job getting old ships back into the game. I love that side of this game; every ship has a use (except the Scyk) or at least is certainly going to be getting one soon. I just hope that the need for "fixed ships" will stop. In the newest wave it felt like we had ships with built in fixes shipped with the ship (TAP title).
