GHOSTBUSTERS

By Tailsgod, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The power of pain compels you to watch this trailer!

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

Edit: In all seriousness, it probably won’t be as good as ghostbusters 1 but I love how it looks thus far and the characters aren’t just stand in female versions of the old they each have their own personality

I love how the ghosts look. And I like what I'm seeing of the team so far. But, that wasn't a great trailer.

Think a New Hope...but no Han, no Luke, no Leia...brrrrr

the FX looks killer, which makes sense given the advances in tech since the first one came out. But I'm not sure I care for the way they're doing this reboot. The fact that the team is women doesn't bother me nearly so much as the impression I get that they're women to make a point, and not because that's what the story is.

It's sad how little interest I have in this.

It's sad how little interest I have in this.

I have to admit, seeing the toys and FX as well as the jokes... It looks like it could be a great movie. But I'm not sure I could get past the "Hey look it's the Ghostbusters but with boobs! Aren't we socially aware!" thing.

I'll freely admit that could be me reading into things... But from what I remember the studio and such made a big deal about an all female cast when it came out.

There actually was a whole mess of them trying to convince the public that there was going to be a male team as well. But they got Paul Feig to do the movie. What would anybody expect.

What would anybody expect.

Idealy... To make a good movie with an enjoyable story, and good actors, and their gender not enter into it.

A female cast doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that it seems like it's a female cast for the sake of it. People doing things to appear socially aware just bugs the crap out of me.

It's like online comics that has gay characters... Half or more of the time it's done so the artist can draw girls making out. Part of the time it's done to appear socially aware, and only rarely is it done for some real reason.

The gay character in Star Wars: Aftermath for example was IMO the right way to do it. Yes he was gay but that was only part of the character over all and only came out because of a situation he found himself in. He didn't run around with a 'I'm Gay' sign over his head.

But in the case of Ghostbusters it seems like the cast was picked because it makes a social comment.

Its more like look at what Paul Feig's biggest hits are. Anyone who thinks he wouldn't make it a female lead comedy is not keeping track of his record.

There are very few remakes that are as good as the original. Anyone remember the Psycho remake in PASTEL? If you do it's only for how bad it was.

I'll go watch it. Not sure if I'll like it better than Extreme ghostbusters....wich was actually pretty good for something with "extreme" in the title.

This looks pretty bad.

I heard there was going to be a "menacing phantom" or something in this movie... plus with all those special effects what could possibly go wrong?

Oh the 90s, where everything was eco, toxic or extreme.

Nostalgia overload.

Understatement of the year it looks fooking awful.

It's like he's heard of Ghostbusters but never seen it or even read the wikki.

They are supposedly bringing it back. So, no matter how the movie turns out, something good will come out of it.

New toyline I hope.

I still got some of my old Kenner figs. LEGO is also pumping out some cool sets. (Except that **** firehouse set is like 300 dollareedoos...)

I missed many-a-schoolbus due to watching episodes of this in the morning.

One of my fave episodes was "Back in the saddle" in wich the old crew (Stanz, Venkman, Zedmore) show up again.

I guess we won't get to see that in this film.

It's sad how little interest I have in this.

I don't expect much from this.

This looks like a nostalgic cash grab with a little bit of social controversy bait.

Ghostbusters Extreme already killed the franchise for me. Granted I wasn't the "go zap those bad monsters" kid at the time like when I was with the Real Ghostbusters cartoon but the writting and plot was just horrible.

The worst episode is when the new team confronts the Wishmaster ghost (i don't even know the names) but where the wishmasters offers a wish to the new ghostbusters and guess what was offered to the one bound in a wheelchair. The ability to walk? Ha kids don't want to walk these days. They would rather go be NBA (noticed not NWBA although the vision shows him still in a wheelchair) superstars. That was a straight up slap in the face for those who are bound to a wheelchair or have prosthetic. It really killed the character. If you are going to be inclusive to include handicap people and say hey you can get passed your handicap then offer them REAL temptations. Like when Riker-Q offered LaForge the ability to see but LaForge refused in order to save Riker from the Q-continuum. That I understand as a kid, this NBA which was actually the NWBA because wheelchairs are not allowed in NBA made no sense.

So yeah dumb writing, attempts to cash in on a franchise that once made money and tugs at viewer nostalgia. If it was treated with respect for the source material and make what was good in those times good today. Sure go ahead remove the old people, that torch has to be passed and Bill Murray isn't getting any younger. But if that is your only selling point is you replaced one exclusive demographic with another exclusive demographic, you are not being inclusive at all, just a hypocrite.

....better.

So the sjw's this was made for are now angry because this films racist, so did not see that coming.

I hope it sinks in soon these people are not anyone's target audience and should be ignored.

sigh

The casting has absolutely nothing to do with pleasing/pandering to any one group. Sony hired Paul Feig to do this movie, since Akroyd and Murray were never going to come to terms on an actual third movie. And let's look at what Feig's biggest successes have been. Bridesmaids and Spy. So is there really any shock that he would make a female lead comedy?
