Hardwired Brobots

By robertrice919, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been tweaking a list with two IG-88's and I thought I'd share one that has been fairly successful for me. I used it last weekend at a local Store Championship and took 3rd place (32 competitors I think).

IG-88 B (36)

Wired (1)

Sensor Jammer (4)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

IG-2000 (0) Title

Autothrusters (2)

IG-88 D (36)

Wired (1)

Sensor Jammer (4)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

IG-2000 (0) Title

Autothrusters (2)

Yes, wired, sensor jammer, and autothrusters. These guys are a real pain in the neck to hit. In one match I faced four Gold Squadron Y-Wings with TLT, R2 Astromech, and the BTL-A4 title. They get to fire primary weapon and the TLT both, provided the target is in arc. So, if you are in range 2 of these guys, you are potentially facing 32 red dice, for a total of 16 damage if all primary damage (2) and TLT damage (2) gets through. This happened to me multiple times, and at least once, I managed to evade them all.

Sensor Jammer triggers for every attack, so that is effectively three times when being shot at by each Y-Wing. At range 3, autothrusters comes into play, kicking a blank into an evade. Very handy : )

Wired is lovely on this build. Having stress eliminates movement options with the S-Loop, but being able to make that maneuver (getting a stress and triggering wired) to reroll all eyeballs (attack and defense) is really **** useful, and makes up for not having an action to take a focus or a target lock.

With some smart maneuvering (and the IG88 dial is pretty swanky), any advantage from an opponent's stress build (I'm looking at you stressbot!) is effectively nullified, and I can argue that stressing me gives me a little bit of an advantage.

I'm generally torn between IG88B (attack again with secondary weapon if primary weapon misses) and IG88C (if you do a boost action, take a free evade token). IG88B is fantastic with the HLC if you get a crappy roll and your target manages to evade out of it, so that is a little bit of insurance there. On the other hand, IG88C is really useful if you find yourself in a bad situation and need to disengage and get out of town, letting your other IG step in and take some heat. I used to prefer C...it helps get into position in the very early game, and can be a life saver in the end game (get to range 3 for autothrusters to kick in, adding more defense to the evade token), but in the mid-game where you are S-Looping around dogfighting or getting in close quarters combat, it doesn't get used much.

I thought about dropping IG88D instead for IG88C, but I can't tell you how many times being able to use the hard 3 turn for the sloop instead of the soft 3 bank saved my backside, put me in a great position to throw down some damage, and got me out of arc. Plus the unpredictability for your opponent to consider is an added bonus. Just don't do it too close to the edge of the map. I've managed to fly off the board a few times, being just a millimeter or two over.

I've been calling this build Double Trouble, Virus, and Hardwired, depending on my mood. Haven't settled yet. I don't like calling them brobots...that sounds too much like some Jock robots having a beer (Have you seen Bender around?).

For more flexibility and some surprise tactics, the HLC can be dropped for a Mangler Cannon, Seismic Charge, and Inertial Dampeners. I feel like that would make for a better build, but I haven't had much success flying that combo around.

The one list that has destroyed me and I haven't figured out yet, has some combination of Palpatine on the shuttle, Omega Leader (juke+comm relay), and some other nasty imperial ace. Maybe I'm just flying bad, but that type of list chews through me like a lawnmower.

I've been using this loadout on my IG for about a month now (only difference now is that I have a Mangler to save points and Inertial Dampeners to make a full stop once per game) and it has been great defensively, you really don't care about TLT or gunner, since probability are very high that the enemy won't have a second Focus to modify both attack.

That got me thinking about an asymetrical dual IG build:

IG-88B with Wired, Sensor Jammer, Mangler Cannon, Ion Cannon, Inertial Dampeners, Autothrusters

IG-88C with Crackshot (or Wired), Fire-Control System, Heavy Laser Cannon, Inertial Dampeners, Autothrusters

You want B for the end game for his ability and defensive capability, but as long as they fire on him, IG-C will snipe them. Should they go for B or C first? Though choice for your opponent.

I tried this list (2x wired) at a store championship yesterday and I ended up in the top half of 50+ though I've been playing for only some weeks so I made some silly mistakes that cost me some games.

I'm considering swapping FCS for a 2nd sensor jammer, as C got focused and took a lot of dmg in some games. on the other hand, it might have been me flying it too fast forward. FCS really helped a few times because more often than not my bots were stressed, between S loops, my debris, inertial d. and the occasional stressbot.

I'm definitely swapping C out for either D or A. in a few games D would have been great to have for the S loop, but A might be better for regenerating especially if keeping FCS. considering how stressed the guys were, A might be more useful overall, maybe.
