I'm curious about the Valuable Facts talent from the Diplomat source book. Basically, it allows the character to roll an average knowledge check once per encounter. If successful, he adds a Triumph to a roll made by an ally during the encounter. So it's neat, but for a character like the Analyst that has the talent, it's can be one of the few things he can do in a tough combat.
The way I read it you add one Triumph. And since a Triumph also counts as a success, you therefor add one success. So if the ally rolls the dice and they come up blank (net 0 successes), using this will allow him to succeed with 1 success, and use the Triumph for a critical hit or something else he desires. A part of me thinks I must be reading that wrong, and that he only gets a Triumph to use, not the success.
How would you read this?
Here is the full text, just so that we are all on the same page:
Once per encounter, the character may take a Valuable Facts action, making an Average Knowledge check (the GM and player should determine which Knowledge skill is most applicable in the given situation). If successful, the character may add to any one check made by an allied character during the encounter.
The subsequent check should relate in some way to the facts the character learned, or the player should come up with an explanation for why the information the character learned is instrumental in the success of the ally’s check.
And here is the bit about Triumphs from the AoR Core book, p.20:
The Triumph symbol is a powerful result, indicating a significant boon or beneficial outcome. Each Triumph symbol provides two effects:
First, each Triumph symbol also counts as one Success, in every way Success has previously been defined. This means that the Success generated by a Triumph symbol could be canceled by a Failure symbol generated during the same skill check.Second, each Triumph symbol can be used to trigger incredibly potent effects.
