So I run a lot of b-wings and a lot of y-wings. I also bounce back to a few "Ace & Friends" lists and will toss in predator frequently, but competitively I usually run B's&Y's. I have noticed in my games that that low ps b's and y's with their tanky amount of health and the low agility that accompanies those ships I have kind of taken note of a few things.
1) With just one agility die and a ship that will generally spend an action to bolster attack vs defense (obvious exceptions like spending a focus to stay alive or a tactical barrel roll to be givens) there is a pretty fair chance you are just going to take whatever they roll anyway.
2) Vs. 2 dice predator is probably only rerolling a single die anyway. Vs 3 dice it is still more than likely they will only have to reroll one die and if they have taken a focus there is a splendid chance they will punch 2 or 3 shots through.
3) Vs 4 dice is where you start to see predator be pretty effective. Although this isn't something you see constantly it happens with enough frequency it needs addressed. R1 with 3 attack ships or facing an HLC toting ship you run into a deficit.
My thoughts: Generally speaking I think predator is the bomb. No one is questioning it, hands down one of the best upgrades in game. I do believe a reasonable counter to a ship that is consistently going to roll max, if not very nearly their max, number of hits every time they shoot is to simply tank up. Mitigation really isn't MUCH of a option vs predators. This is working for me, it has worked for a while, and I don't seeing it becoming less effective against predator lists that don't also contain tractor beams (that however is a new thread all by itself)
Do you agree? Disagree? Have other ideas about counters to predator? Other ships that predator is less effective against?
(I left out the mist hunter as it is presently not released, it is my belief it will have a similar resistance as it is the scum b-wing)
