A great show guys! Awesome having Doug and hothie on at the same time ;).

Yall gotta leave the poor stresshog alone. During the podcast you told a story about playing Super Dash against a pre tlt Panic attack and how totally helpless that list was against dash. I believe your words were ...he's a better player, but I didn't allow him to win." So that's the situation aces were in pre tlt, even a list like Panic attack designed to thrwart them could find itself helpless agasint aces. If you look at the winning lists from store championships, there's plenty of palp aces winning right now. As someone who regularly flies the stresshog, at tournaments, I have to hope to avoid my local gaming group, they have so much practice against it that I probably lose more than I win in casual nights. I've been lucky enough to mostly avoid than them in tournaments and thats pretty much what I credit my two store championship wins in two attempts this year to.

(Sorry if im ranting, I only criticize because I love)

Man, you guys seemed nervous as **** talking to Hothie. Was totally weird because Dee especially seems really smooth in most conversations with guests, but even he was stumbling in this one. And...Buster Douglas?! Open mouth, insert foot?

On one hand, I kind of wish you had run the examples by Doug to get his take. I just got the feeling that he does feel "fly casual" means letting a bit more slide than Dee seems inclined to, but much in his polite fly-casual spirit, he didn't want to be rude and tell you different. Of course, that could all be my own projection of what fly casual means onto Doug. On the other hand, I think not throwing the examples at him was probably the most polite thing.

i was about to get salty at you guys as i did at the Nova Squad guys for cluttering up my Podcast App, but this is a late post and i already listened to it!

great listen i wish i could have gone to more SC's, but i did manage to win the one i went to, so i guess i cant complain too much?

Mostly we were having some technical issues on my end, which the guys straightened out to make it sound smooth.

And I've been thinking about this, and there really is nothing saying that I have to be the main judge of whether something is "Fly Casual" or not. It's really about your own attitude and your own games. Are you playing within the rules? Are you being a jerk? The answers to those questions I think can answer most of the scenarios that Dee would have brought up.

But something like flying your opponent off the board, it's really up to you. I have seen people rage quit because of it, even though the player was well within their rights to do so. I don't personally fly anyone off of the board. Usually I will dial in the maneuver I anticipated them doing, because that is what my maneuvers are based upon. Worst case I land them on a rock or out of the fight for a few rounds, but not off the board. But that's just me.

Worlds 2014 I think had some good examples. Richard Hsu's much talked about fortressing being one of them. The fortressing is a legal tactic that he employed to try and get the win. I don't have a problem with that at all. But when he was trash-talking his opponent, trying to goad him into flying into the fortress, that is where I think it crossed the line.

Also many people forget that Paul had his top 8 match vs James McDonald lost. Paul did a boost with Han which didn't give him any maneuvers for the next round. He was going to be off the board. But James (aka Sunny Ravencourt) said,"No, I'm not going to beat you like that." and made Paul take the boost back. I don't know that I would have done the same thing as Sunny did, showing exemplary sportsmanship in that match. It was amazing, and ended up costing Sunny the game, but its a testament to who Sunny is as a person.

I mean, if you go out for some beers after the tourney with your opponent, are you going to be laughing about the game, or are you going to be sitting at the opposite end of the table as them? That should tell you whether you are flying casual or not.

Thanks for the interview guys! Keep up the good work!

Man, I don't think I could do that, only because I would consider it the pinnacle of the game to get in someone's head so much that they don't see the results of a boost. That's some next level stuff.

HAPPY TREE FRIENDS!

It's cute that Dee thinks the Stay On Target guys have thick accents.

The implementation I had in mind for range 3 defensive bonus against TLT is just a change to base rules that gives the defensive bonus to turret upgrades. No need to change the card. It makes a B v TLT Gold fight pretty even.

I still don't think it's really necessary, but if anything needs to be done that's the easiest small tweak with the fewest side effects.

That account left out an important detail. Sunny did not think the boost cleared a bump. Still a really nice thing to do, but he did actually think the boost was illegal.

Okay, that makes a big difference.

Okay, that makes a big difference.

I thought the boost wasn't actually 'performed' it was just 'declared', after which Paul realized it would kill him, but he was going to perform it anyways since he declared it, and then Sunny told him he wasnt going to win that way.

But I could be wrong.

Ooh, I love this story. What happened was I did a 2 turn with Han, and plopped him right in front, at range 1, of Soontir and Whisper. Soontir was literally right in front of me, a hair away from bumping. He was in a lot of trouble, so I said I would boost. Left boost was Whisper, straight wouldn't cross Soontir right in front of me, so I said I'd boost right (to bounce over Soontir and arc dodge Whisper).

I had the 1 bank in hand, about 6 inches over the board, thinking we'd have to mark Soontir, when I noticed the board edge was so close that a 1 turn would end up with Han's back corner over the board edge. Sunny said, "Hey, we should call a judge over and make sure this clears." I'm almost positive he'd pop over Soontir and clear - the 1 bank template is surprisingly big!

I said something at some point about how Han was doomed. Sunny asked me if I still wanted to do the boost. I said no, of course not, but I declared it. That's when he insisted I not do the boost, because he didn't want to beat me that way. I asked "are you absolutely sure?" He was totally within his rights to lock me into the boost, but he said he was sure, and I focused.

I was still in trouble with Whisper and Soontir staring down Han, but he rolled 4 blanks on Soontir, and Whisper didn't do much either. After that I raced past the two ships and ended up winning.

Point taken. I personally try to avoid criticizing the few aspects I dislike about X-Wing, and revel in the smorgasbord of goodness that it is. Occasionally, Ryan or a guest will pick at a pet peeve scab... but I'll endeavor to leave those be moving forward.

Hahaha, I *WAS* nervous! I don't get flustered talking with K.O., my X-Wing hero. I don't get nervous about messaging Paul Heaver or (slightly) disagreeing with his views. I'm not shy about contradicting Dallas when we theory craft. BUT I think I was worried that Doug would find fault with our derivative motto "Fly Better" or suggest we need up to our Casual!

The reason I skipped my list of examples, was that I felt his core principles of engaging others via The Golden Rule, and checking yourself to make sure you won't be embarrassed in future meetings thoroughly covered the matter. I do admit, I have a short list of players that I feel no remorse being curt with, because well...they're awful. However, he gave me much to consider in terms of improving my personal standards of behavior. Applying those principles rigorously, coupled with greater clarity of communication, has resulted in increasingly terrific interactions.

You guys owe this guy a 'Juicy Prize Package'!

It was a genuine treat having you on Doug! Thanks for putting up with us two chuckleheads.

And yeaaaah....I wouldn't have had the generosity to roll back that boost. What I'm working on is making sure that I hold MYself to mistakes and missed opportunities, even if my opponent instructs me otherwise. I think the primary points are (as Doug submitted): don't be a jerk, and play within the rules. If you have your own particular standards (additional rules), play within those as well!

Thanks for the deets, Paul! I'm sorry I missed that match. It sounds like an epic confrontation of that collapsed meta.
