Weapon, Armor & Equipment cards

By Vegabond2, in WFRP Rules Questions

With all the other cards and tokens I was surprised that Equipment cards were overlooked / not included. Having not played the new game yet, is there any reason for FFG NOT to make cards for these items?

I think they would be useful, if not neat to swap around and just quickly see what each character has.

Thoughts?

Not really a rules question. However, I expect it was a matter of cost. They would need to print up a whole plethora of common item cards. X many hand weapons, X many Great Weapons, etc. Unlike Talents and actions, which generally won't be used by more than one or two players at a time, you'll have a lot of players with multiple weapons and equipment. Thus, they relagated common equipment to the character sheet, and left only special and magical items as cards.

I can easily see an expansion devoted entirely to something like this. I would love to have cards for weapons, armor, and equipment.

Agreed. Between FFG's expansion track record and the convenience that having cards for much/all standard and magical equipment, an expansion must be in the works...

I look forward to it!

Yeah.. i was also surprised by the lack of equipment cards. Lets hope they release equipment cards.

I was a little disappointed, but not really surprised. After all adding a complete inventory of item cards would have probably necessitated the removal of the magic/blessing from the core game.

I personally don't see a lot of value in having cards for the common items, certainly not to the same extent as the talents and action cards. I just feel that given the static nature of the items (not a lot of special rules applied like there are for actions), it seems to make sense to have a simple notation on a character sheet.

I do think it is a great idea for uncommon items, artifacts, or any other item that would have special rules attached.

Some issues I see:

  • How do you track if the item is low or superior quality?
  • More cards = more space, which if you have plenty isn't an issue.
  • Shopping becomes a larger pain as players need to sift through a deck to find the appropriate item.

Isn't a supplement company that makes item cards like this? I would be curious to hear from folks using those how it has improved or impacted game play.

Honestly, I can only see item cards being used for magic items which require descriptions that are too long to fit onto a character sheet. Plus, you can fit some fluff on these cards, which avoids the problem of trivializing the rarity and importance of such gear.

Eg.: Gromril's Hammer in the Core Set.

I have a feeling that we'll be seeing more of such cards in upcoming supplements.
