Serious question here: 3x Cutlass Squadron, 12x Proton Bomb, Could it work?

Cutlass Squadron x3, Proton Bombs x6, Extra Munitions x3

1 point initiative bid.

I'm not very experienced with bombs. I feel like you could fly in such a manner to force at least one of them to hit something, and with 12 you're bound to hit something.

I don't know if it would work, but it would be glorious to see.

I wish, I'd take missiles or torps over bombs though.

I have a feeling against certain low /hull/ lists you could actually make this work.

Against a double T-70 regen list and an A-Wing, you can just kill everything through shields.

Its fun all right, but you have to be very skilled at arc-dodging to not die.

Not to mention all the expansions necessary for 12 Proton Bombs...

Fly it. Fly it and win with it. You could also drop two of the Protons to Seismics and have points to put Autothrusters on all the ships.

You don't need 12 Proton Bomb cards, just 6. You don't even need that many really, all you need is 3 of the tokens. You're sure as hell not playing this in an event serious enough to call out proxies.

Of course you don't need 12 Proton Bomb tokens, but if you're doing something this ludicrous you might as well get them just to up the flavor of the list.

Only need three of the tokens. They detonate immediately, so you'll always have the same or fewer bombs out as ships.

Right. I realize this. But I want to see a stack of four Proton Bombs just underneath each of the Cutlass Squadron Pilot cards because it would be hilarious.

Go for it!

Shoot, misread this, I was hoping for a board full of proximity mines...

Probably not, but the one game it does work will be too much fun not to give it a whirl. :D

This actually sounds amazing. Could you pack a set of Connor nets though instead? Would help grabbing hapless foes.

Dropping one set to Conner and seismics give you some swarm coverage and gives you room for death rain!!!

As much as I might not agree with you on a lot of things this list sounds possible and fun. Gold.

Is this how you guys get to 5000 posts so fast?

Typing on your phone makes you a lazy bstard. =)

I'd prefer this:

3 x Cutlass Squadron Pilot (33)

TIE Punisher (21), Advanced Sensors (3), Extra Munitions (2), Proximity Mines (3), Proximity Mines (3), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Since PS2 is too low for Proton Bombs - but just right for Prox mines.

But of course - dropping 3 Proton Bombs in one turn would lead to a much larger 'Death Zone' and thus more difficult to evade the blast. Could be fun.

How about 3x

Cutlass Squadron Pilot (21)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Ion Bombs (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Allowing you to set them up the bomb. Taking away their Zig.

It sounds like a lot of fun - although I'd possibly switch one of the bombs out for a Homing Missile (or Advanced Homing Missile if you want the shield-ignorign Critical Hit effects) and add Guidance Chips to all three. Two bombs, two missiles, danger zone in front and behind.

Dropping bombs is such good fun, though...

I just found a hilarious purpose for Genius:

Kavil

Veteran instincts

Genius

EM

Ion Bombs

Sidle up to the enemy, preferably out of arc on a parallel course (K-Turn?) and drop the bomb after you have moved. You don't care about getting caught in the blast, because then the next turn you do the same thing (normally you can only drop bombs when you reveal a maneuver, which you don't do when ioned, but Genius allows you to drop such bombs after you've executed your maneuver, which is something you do while ioned).

All the while harassing them with the boosted turret of choice (Dorsal, for 4 dice) and knowing exactly where they will be the next turn.

Self-Ioning, effective since Ender.

Why don't you try it then report your findings on the forums?

No idea, but I now have to try, after all I own 4 Punishers and have never used more than one at a time. I think I will replace one Bomb with Conner Nets + Enhanced Scopes. I don't think it will work well, recently sucessfull bomb heavy lists still featured K-Wings with consistent damage output, but it certainly is worth a try. Maybe Conner aren't such a good idea because of the damage you lose, but they make it possible to catch high mobility ships in your area of total doom and destruction.

Ooh, not as effective maybe as the 3 CS 12 PB's but 4 Cutlass with EM and Seismics...

That's a lot of hitpoints to punch through as well.
