Expansion Timeline

By seef1033, in Imperial Assault Campaign

We just started playing IA about a month ago. I know we have plenty of playtime left with this game, but our players are already asking about when the next expansion comes out. This is my first experience with FFG and it looks like we just started a few months after a large expansion... is there a pretty reliable timetable for expansions? Are we looking at 6 months? A year?

There isn't a schedule and it's quite possible there won't be any. It seems pretty profitable from this end but that doesn't mean it is worth their time or that they won't make an entirely new and not compatible version for the new shows.

I'm sort of hoping they'll do some Rebels stuff, but I could easily see them do it as a new system that is much simpler and meant for kids as an entry game.

Well, if history is any indication:

Imperial Assault Core: Dec 2014

>> Wave 1 Figures (Core Campaign Figs): Mar 2015

Twin Shadows: Aug 2015

>>Wave 2 Figures (Twin Shadows Campaign Figs): Aug 2015

>>Wave 3 Figures (Wookies, Hired Guns, Stormtroopers) : Oct 2015

Return to Hoth: Dec 2015

>>Wave 5 Figures (RtH Campaign Figs): Dec 2015
>>Wave 4 Figures (Bantha, Smuggler): Feb 2016 (Delayed, 8 month lead time)

Announcement times for new waves have generally between two and five months lead time. We should be hearing from FFG any Friday now with a new wave...

Given the pattern laid out, and also from previous Descent 2.0 patterns, I expect we'll see a mini campaign (like Twin Shadows) between every full campaign add-on (like Return to Hoth), with the mini releasing mid-year and the full campaign dropping as close to Christmas as possible. My guess is that we will see a mini Jabba's palace campaign mid 2016 with more waves of bounty hunters and Bespin (Lando system?) models filling the scum ranks, either before or after Jabba's Palace, followed by a Battle of Endor full campaign at the end of the year, with waves to support that.

2017 will be the year they put out a new Core Set, most likely tied to The Force Awakens.

DISCLAIMER: No Bothans were harmed to bring you this information.

I'd also expect seperate campaign books to start any time using tiles and figures from the existing expansions.

Do you think they will do campaign book releases? They did one for Descent which was very highly regarded, but that felt almost like they were trying to make up for the very poorly designed core campaign. IA's core campaign isn't as fun as TS or RTH, but it isn't nearly as bad as what Descent dealt with imo..

Will be interesting to see though and I would of course love for them to do so. I would personally like to see some campaigns go somewhere in the 7-9 quest range, just a bit shorter to cut down on the number of sessions necessary to complete. Maybe they could make some side quest chains that are completely optional, and if you do those they add on a campaign mission or something.

Think they just need to create more 1 off campaigns that'll take 4-6 hours. Perhaps 1 story mission, 2 side missions, and then 1 final mission.

And you can have just certain scenarios: where if Rebels win proceed down this road; Imperials win proceed down this road; and what ever happens during side missions, results in final mission.
