Youngster......

By ericdagamer, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey all,

Got a couple of questions for Youngster.....

Who can share his ability? I ask because of the way his card is worded "TIE fighters" as opposed to "TIE Fighters", the first implies any TIE class fighter, the second only "TIE Fighter and TIE/FO Fighter".....

Next is the question of what Elite Pilot Upgrades can be used? The phrase "Perform Action" would imply only those Elite Pilot Upgrades cards that say "Action" on them....

Help Us Emperor, You're my Only Hope!"

As long as the ship name has both "TIE" and "fighter" in it (regardless of capitalization), it can share Youngster's upgrade. Right now, that's just the TIE Fighter and the TIE/FO.

And yes, only the upgrades that contain the "Action" header are usable.

TIE/LN and TIE/FO (the two examples in the Core Sets) can use his ability.

Currently, there are 5 elite talents that Youngster can share (Expert Handling, Squad Leader, Daredevil, Marksmanship, and Expose).

Hands down, the best option is going to be the one coming in Wave 8 (Rage).

For a Rageswarm, I'd recommend one of the following fleets:

Youngster + Rage

7x Academy

Youngster + Rage + Hull

Epsilon Leader
Wampa
4x Academy Pilots

The second is the one I'm currently flying, but there's a lot to be said for the former.

If I may.... TIE/LN?

Original TIE Fighter.

One of the places where it's a pity that FFG weren;t more technical with ship names early on, because it's a lot harder now to define original TIE fighters in the rules when the rules are as they are WRT how restrictions work.

If I may.... TIE/LN?

TIE/LN is the 'proper' name for the Tie Fighter. TIE/IN is the Interceptor.

If Rageswarms become dominant, I'm totally bringing at least one Assault missile from now on...

Requiring that the ship be both a TIE Fighter and Galactic Empire would match only the original TIE Fighter and not the TIE/fo.

Indeed, and I'm guessing that's how they'll do it, but there's no denying it would have been easier if they could have just written 'TIE l/n Fighter only' - or more importantly, 'T65 X-Wing only').

Ruthlessness for the Imperial players (especially EPT and Advanced Targeting Computer packing TIE Advanced pilots). Darth Vader goes very well with Ruthlessness + Assault Missiles.

Ruthlessness on Colonel Vessery with the TIE/D title and a Tractor Beam is getting bandied about.

I'm in favor of TIE Swarms, but I'm also very in favor of this.

Put Colonel Vessery, TIE/D, Tractor Beam, Ruthlessness out there with one or more TIE Advanced using the Advanced Targeting Computer and you can practically guarantee Vessery's ability will trigger. Choose Lt. Colzet as your TIE Advanced and you get even more target lock shenanigans!

You can go mini-swarm at five ships:

Colonel Vessery

TIE/D

Tractor Beam

Ruthlessness

Lt. Colzet

TIE/x1

Advanced Targeting Computer

Academy Pilot in the nude x3

Sad state of affairs:

I just asked myself "Are 3x Academy Pilots the best use of 36 points in the Empire?"

I mean, that's Vader.

And I just realized I asked it in a YOUNGSTER thread.

Talk about digression, eh?
