It seems the boat went down, because the site now states "not yet released"
So now FFG is afraid to release it too early to avoid a crash!

What else would they call a product not for sale yet ?
Releasing early is not generally considered a good thing.
It still says on the boat on the upcoming page. Anyway March 17 it is.
My new theory:
Boat sets sail mid-December 2015 in time for release at the end of January/beginning of February. We are so excited about Wave 8 that our pre-orders go through the roof. The ship turns around just after the new year, sails back to China, fills up with X-Wing miniatures, and sets sail again around the end of January 2016. Release set for mid-March, six weeks after second departure from China.
I have no idea the actual quantity of blister packs in the average wave, or the volume available to a modern container ship, but I am curious about how much of that ship is filled with little plastic spaceships. What percentage are we looking at?

Relatively tiny. There are tens of thousands of containers on the largest ships, and x-wings have a lot of volume per unit, but not THAT much.
I very much doubt the ship turned around. It's possible that another order had to be made and another ship sent, but it's vanishingly unlikely that FFG's was the only load on that ship, and even if it was, it's unlikely they'd turn it round and go back to reload.
No-ones considered the obvious.
FFG Make the call of cthulu games.
Ry'leh is in the middle of the ocean somewhere.
CTHULU F'TASY F'TANG G'MS B'T DR'N G'N.
Also, Have you played C'thulu's X-wing list? It's killer.

Hey! I can use other elite upgrades whenever I want!

The boat probably got hit by pirates. The x-wing scene in Somalia is about to explode.
The real boat is already back to homeport. But FFG storage lockers have nautical names like the "SS Dusty" and the Cardboard Cruiser.
Boat, what boat?
*cradles his Wave 8 minis*
I guess I assumed everyone knew this, but the west coast ports have been involved in another slow-burning labor dispute for several weeks. And since "on the boat" is FFG's only external symbol for everything that happens between loading the ship in China and the arrival of product at distribution hubs...
No such slowdown. I'm the idiot who misread the dates on last year's news.

Can we all (it involves a plane trip for me) go to the dock and just volunteer to unload the x wing ourselves? One of us has to have a crane lisence and someone on here has to have a forklift lisence?

This puzzled me because it doesn't show that in the upcoming page. I tried reloading without cache, still shows on the boat. I then wiped my browser history (sometimes it's performs what the reload without cache can't do) and reopened chrome, still 'on the boat'. Then, I realized you were looking at the direct individual product pages, such as this:

I've got the forklift license

Yes which is where it is going from the distribution hubs to stores. Vorpal is correct.
Releasing early is not generally considered a good thing.
Worse than late, then later, release? Hmmm.....Quite the conundrum...
