Heroes and Monster packs

So quick question regarding these packs , i'm interested in buying a few but just want to know if i can simply use the monster's in the shadow rune & heirs of blood campaign to give me extra choice as the Overlord ??

Hope this question makes sense.

With my first playthrough of the shadow rune campaign as overlord I used monsters from the Bonds of the Wild M&H pack. They are a good way to add more variety in what you can field as an Overlord. The H&M packs are pricy though. I have now got Crown of Destiny and Guardians of Deephall. Looking forward to running my next campaign.

Yes, you can use them. Quests very often have 'open groups'. Each monster has certain traits and the quests guide specifies from which traits the open group can be chosen.

The official rule states that you should determine the expansion and H&M pack that you're going to use at the start of a campaign, you shouldn't had new expansion or H&M pack in the course of a campaign.

But our houserule (and I'm sure we're not alone), as soon as an expansion is bought, we add the content to our existing campaign.

As the others have mentioned the monsters can be put into any campaign via open groups. However the only quests where they will be a default monster group are the 2 rumor quests that come in the pack.

A bit of research can be used to go over the campaign you are planning to play and the monsters that come in a pack to see how often they will be available. (Not that i have but im sure someone probably has done).

On a different note, are there any European, specifically UK, players who have been able to get a hold of treaty of champions? All my usual regular and reliable stockists have not seen the product. Best i have found is an Amazon seller going for £40+ which is bonkers.

I think your out of luck at the moment for Treaty of Champions at the moment. I always use boardgameprices for atock checks

Rumor cards are extra 'events' the overlord can play. Most of these feature extra quests. (the H&M packs only have quests, some small box expansions have others)

These quests can be played during a full campaign (Shadow Rune, LoR, SoN, HoB) as extra quests on top of the normal available quests.

Rumor cards are a concept originally introduced in the small box expansions - they let the overlord choose to add extra quests to a campaign to integrate the smaller campaign quests into a big box campaign. The hero and monster packs provide an additional quest via the rumor mechanic as well. They are optional and for your first campaign or two i would personally recommend that they be left alone, if both parties are not fully up on the game they can really swing a campaign balance around.

If you're having trouble choosing which Monster groups to use as the OL, my advice is to use traits also associated with Plot Decks, if you are using them.
