Ive touched on this a few times on the forum here and if bore or aggravate anyone for repeating myself, I apologize ahead of time but Im still looking for some assistance.
When working up an adventure (or a thousand times worse, when just running a freeform type session) the GM will on occasion (or constantly depending on their style of GMing) refer to his resources to find... oh, a particular weapon or armor type, an alien race, or maybe a specific piece of equipment or a vehicle that fits the scene just right, or a special talent that would make an NPC unique and challenging.
With each and every supplement FFG puts out the game resource becomes larger (a good thing) but next to impossible to browse (not a good thing at all). This is a real nuisance when planning a session but makes spur of the moment hunting nearly impossible. With a whole shelf full of books and each one including expansions to lists of talents, equipment, ships, weapons etc. You've got to have a photographic memory to 'browse' for that one item/talent/ship your looking for.
Typically you just say the 'heck with it' and wing it yourself and basically render that $30 and really cool book mute.
There are a few kind souls out there that have attempted to build indexes for this sort of thing but frankly, with only a title to go by and no brief description they are limited help when browsing.
Im not sure I have an answer to this problem but Id be very surprised if others aren't experiencing it.
In our last game I wanted a certain Rival Adversary to carry a signature weapon. I had intended to write it up but forgot and found myself in the middle of the session when I remembered. Glancing through the core book nothing really fit and then I looked over at my book shelf and the 10 or so books staring back at me. Ugggh. So I gave the guy a blaster with the Accurate trait and called it done. Ho hum, not at all what I intended.
Surely FFG in electing to piecemeal so much info in a series of supplements has a way to index and search through it all? If not, WTF were they thinking?
