Ok, so taking into mind that I will buy all four of the huge ships eventually, and I have every other ship released so far and I play all factions equally...
Which huge ship should I buy first?
Which one would give me the most bang for my buck?
Which one has the best flavor?
Which one will get my girlfriend horny?
Wait... maby not that last one...
Which Huge ship should I buy first? (read the post before answering)
If you are getting all 4 eventually, ask yourself which factions you play more.
I would vouch for the transport because it has excellent play value in epic and normal game-play.
Like I said, I play all three factions equally ![]()
Gozer. it's cards buff all the rest. + swarm TIEs. + crew.
Edited by DariusAPBI own the transport, CR-90, and Gozanti. I've used cards from the transport and CR-90 but have never used the actual ships themselves before (though hopefully that will change soon).
The Gozanti, on the other hand...the second I took that thing out of the box I HAD to get it on the table. I just love the model, and the docking rules are great fun. It doesn't have as many "must own" cards as the other epic ships, though it is on the cheap end (at least compared to the Raider and CR-90).
Of the four I think it will get your girlfriend horniest.
Go with the most expensive one first, this way the other ones might seem cheap
I guess it also depends if you want to play epic or not... I have no advise for playing epic but if you are looking into the upgrad cards mostly it depends on what ships you play. I know you play them all equally but do you prefer Advanced over TIE fighter? Or you really want to play Hobbie with targeting Astro? Or you can't handle playing Miranda or Han without golden boy? If all that is equal... go with the Gozanti! reasonable cheap and you get three ships plus a reasonable amount of upgrade cards ![]()
If you don't buy the Gozanti first, you will have to proxy those upgrade cards. They really fix Epic in ways that are good.
Here's the thing:
In about 3 weeks time, there's a week long holiday at the school I work in.
But some of the kids in my Nerd Gaming Club will be there anyway for Junior Club.
So I was thinking of running an epic game with them, just for kicks ![]()
So that's why I'm buying one ship.
Did have a heartattack moment just now, though, as I realized I had accidentally ordered all four of them at once!
Was looking at the cost of buying them all, and put them all in the shopping cart on the site I buy from... then I thought no more of that, and went on to order one of the two ships I don't have yet (the star viper... the other one is the E-wing).
Turns out the other 4 huge ships were still in the shopping cart and I didn't notice.
So, here's hoping my order can be cancelled! ![]()
The advantage of The Gozer and GR75 over the other two larger ships also is that they are easier to integrate into smaller games. You can use a 3X3 and it's fine.
Of course... the advantage of the two larger ships is that they are large, and have lots of guns. Also C3PO and the Advanced fix cards are nothing to sniff at. I stand by my if you had to get one first, go for the Gozer though.
Get the CR90 because chicks like corvettes, right?
Seriously, the Govanti looks awesome.
Edited by Boba RickI vote Raider, because it'll make your Tie Adv. actually playable. No sense in having all the ships if you can't really use 'em
I'd probably rank them...
1. Raider
2. Gozanti
3. CR90
4. Transport
Reasoning:
1. Raider - its the ship that best fulfills the Epic experience, IMO. Rebels dogfighting TIEs around a big Imperial wedge. It's a tad small compared to the other ships, IMO, but it still feels great on the table. Also, fixing Vader and giving you the Emperor makes it a great add for regular play.
2. Gozanti - I consider this the least Epic, Epic ship, as it often times feels like a slightly slower Decimator, but the upgrade cards give you tons of options on the Raider, making it a great expansion. Cool new TIEs give you some non-Epic fun, but its really the options the upgrades give that makes this one for me. That and the deploy mechanic is pretty cool as well.
3. CR90 - Mostly 3rd because by now, you're looking to have two huge ships punch each other to death. This supplies that, C3PO and R2D2. I'm not actually overly fond of it anymore as Rebels have so many fun Large ships and this thing kind of dwarfs the Raider oddly. It's still a unique playstyle for the Rebels that's completely worth a try.
4. Transport - Oddly, my favorite rebel huge ship sits in last. It's just not very glamorous, but built primarily as a jammer, its a cool, powerful piece that ties an Epic rebel fleet together well.
I can see the Rebels having an easier time vs. Epic ships, so maybe it's good to go for Imperial epic.
No doubt, the Transport is the best by far. As a jammer or command ship it has notable impact, and your girl can use it...errrr...no.
Looks like I'll go for the Gozanti first.
I'll basically be buying the other ones on a monthly basis (except for the month when Wave 8 comes in, whenever that will be in my neck of the woods), so it's not like it's a huge (pun intended) deal.
I strongly recomend.you to purchase the Transport and Gozanti prior to the bigger ones. My experience
My favorite is the CR90 mainly because of OT nostalgia, but it's also a lot of fun to play!
I am in the same boat as you as to which one to get first. I have gone with the raider as I love Darth and a TIE advanced without a title and ATC is no TIE advanced at all, but as people have said, Gozanti has some pretty sweet cards in it. I love Wampa, pay an extra 2 points for +3 PS and a great ability when it goes off. But if you prefer Rebel Scum then I have 0 idea about those guys.
What I will add is which Scum and Villainy huge ship to buy first is easy.........
We are looking at you FFG......
If you're looking for a ship for Epic play, go for the Gozanti. It's got some very useful cards that will buff all your epic ships, and it's a fairly lightweight introduction to the game - a cross between a support ship and a gunboat, so you get to learn how each works.
If you're casual about epic but want to help out your normal games, go for the Raider. The X-wing and TIE fighter options added by the GR75 and Gozanti are nice, but the TIE/x1 title is a must-have for flying the Advanced. In addition you get Palpatine, which is a whole new list archetype.
I'd phrase the question this way:
"What do you find you get the most use out of from the epic ships in a non-epic game?"
CR90: C-3PO
Transport: Stressbot
Raider: Palpatine, TIE Advance fixes
Goz: ???
I know this list is incomplete but what do you find useful in standard games from the epic ships?
I don't personally love the Gozanti as a FIRST Epic ship for a few reasons. While the upgrades in it absolutely revolutionize Epic play and are, IMO a must have; they're not all that vital or impactful on the Gozanti itself. It's way more exciting to play one of the other huge ships and then buy the Gozanti to really open up the design space for them. Also, outside of the deploy mechanic, it just doesn't play as unique as the Corvettes. Half the fun of a huge ship is the energy allocation and use of secondary weapons as well as the opposing strategy of crippling one section to weaken another. Both of the Corvette's provide a more interesting experience and eat up enough points to prevent Epic games from feeling like they're simply longer versions of the base game. That it probably has the least crucial upgrade cards for non-Epic play is another big reason I don't find it the ideal first purchase, but if you're going to play Epic at all, I think its a pretty mandatory second buy.
What color is your girlfriend's hair? If it's dark, get the CR-90 because Leia Organa crew. If it's lighter, get the raider because Juno Eclipse pilot.
Without knowing what the rest of your collection, it is hard to answer these questions. But here goes anyway.
Which huge ship should I buy first?
I would lean towards the CR90 Tantiv IV. For the idea of running a campaign, it really is the funnest on its own. Also, the Imperials can still load up a lot solid attack ships alongside a huge ship. Fighting a raider and a tie swarm and a phantom could get super ugly quick.
Which one would give me the most bang for my buck?
This so depends on the ships you fly.
If you fly the tie advanced, or want some awesome imperial crew, get the raider.
If you fly Tie Swarms, or want ace Ties, or want to reinact the Rebels TV show, the Gozanti cruiser is great.
If you like large rebel ships and want more crew choices, the the tantive is you go.
If you love R2 units, the rebel transport.
Which one has the best flavor?
The CR-90 is the one people most see and go, "isn't that a star wars ship?" The rest are nice, but CR-90.
Which one will get my girlfriend horny?
The one that looks most like me. Buy me a second Raider and I will just send you some tasteful photos to use instead.
Wait... maby not that last one...
Sorry, too late.
Glad I could help.
Edited by allistorpreistWell, I went with the Tantive IV.
I figured that A: It would be the most iconic and recognizable ship for the kids (Gozanti a close second), B: It would be easy to build a scenario around and C: Most of the kids prefer playing Imps anyway, so since I'll be the one running the huge ship, rebel it is ![]()
