Z-95 and T-70 Repaints

By D10D3, in X-Wing

I'm still fairly new to this game but I'm absolutely loving it. I decided to spruce up one of my T-70's because Poe rocks. I also repainted a Z-95 both because I love headhunters (played a Z-95 pilot in an RPG for years) and I don't care much for the Black Sun paint scheme.

I had been using water to thin out my acrylics every since I started painting. I'd found that if you're careful, and patient, you can get half decent results. Recently I'd read that you can get better results with an acrylic thinner, and so I bought one to give it a try along with a T-70 (at a LGS). I used a wee bit of dish soap as a flow agent - but other than that I just tried a few mixes to see how well it worked...

I'll say this, the paint bonded noticeably better when using acrylic thinner rather than water to thin the paint (I tend to paint in thin layers so as to keep the detail as full as possible), and it (understandably) took longer for each coat to dry; but the biggest thing I noticed was that the opacity was richer - which was nice. I don't think I've find the "perfect" blend yet, but I'll use acrylic thinner from now on.

That acrylic thinner looks REALLY nice!

Love the colour scheme for the Z95! Great work!
