Brobots Store Champ List

By EeiddKlabe, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am thinking of going to a small a store championship and I've never run IG's but I'd like to. But before I go practicing this list, I'd like to get a review of it from more experienced players. What do you think of this Asymmetrical build?

The idea is to try to stay extremely maneuverable, force Ion shots if i can (using AC on IG88C), then follow my enemies with target locked HLC shots. If I am going to do an extreme maneuver to get behind an enemy, advanced sensors so I get my actions and go full force on HLC. IG88C runs wingman to keep me out of double stress. Both bots then clear the stress from that hard maneuver with the amazing greens on the IG dial, aided by a (hopefully) Ionized enemy unable to turn back on me. Inertial Dampeners let me keep an advantageous position even if I'm already stressed. Then more cannons obviously. Enemies behind me? Hopefully I boosted (or performed evade action) to have a token. Autothrusters... you see where this is going.

If I were running Brobots, this would be the one build I would take...

IG-88B (36)
Crack Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)

IG-88C (36)
Crack Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)

It packs the most raw firepower. That, combined with the IG's dial, means you can kill ships in a hurry. I also much prefer a symmetrical build, if only to keep myself from getting confused during the many rounds of a tournament.

Brobot builds are always incredibly tough to judge because they can do so many things well. Your list will certainly do what you've set them up to do.

I however, agree with Bowser's list. You only have 16 HP, I'm not sure you can play the slow, grinding style of game a lot of Ion users can get into. I much prefer the highly offense based set up Bowser shows here. I'm going to win by killing off a lot of your ships quickly, knowing that in a 1 v 1 setting, IG's usually have the edge with their extreme maneuverability, defenses, and firepower.

The crackshot IG88s is powerful, especially on the first turn of shooting. However, it has some weaknesses: self-stressing makes turning around harder, and even when you do turn around, you have no defensive token, so durability is weak (relative to other IG88 builds). Basically, you are gambling that your high offense can cripple the enemy to avoid a long, drawn out battle of attrition (which the list is not well suited for).

Since you can't always control that (especially against higher PS mobile aces), I honestly don't believe that is the 'best' build (although its the easiest to use, its bad matchup is quite common atm).

Ion cannons however are powerful. On IG88,, they are nice in conjunction with IG88B's ability. So if you plan on using ion cannons, you definitely want IG88B in the build. Also, due to the fact that large-base ships need 2 ion tokens in order to ionize them, it makes sense to have 2 ion cannons (so you can nail a big ship in one turn if you need to).

Another big problem for IG88s is getting turned around. Sometimes they can just get blocked up and unable to point their guns in the right direction, and I think ion cannons can help solve that issue by controlling your opponents so they cannot bock your moves. Having advanced sensors definitely helps (gives you the option to boost before an s-loop or k-turn).

If I were running a control IG build, I would go with:

IG88B & C w/ predator + advanced sensors, ion cannon, autothrusters, inertial dampeners + ion bombs = 50 x 2

I've actually seen this build being used to good effect on VASSAL, so its not just theoretical. The upgrades make a lot of sense. Predator means the ion cannon is very accurate (especially in conjunction with B's ability) so your odds of ionizing hard to hit targets is decent. You have board control behind your ships in the form of the ion bomb. You have dampeners to slow down when you need to (often necessary when behind opponents that you have ionized).

You don't really need IG88D for this build, because with the control element, its unlikely the funky s-loop will be necessary, so IG88C seems more useful, especially with advanced sensor boosts (and A is really only worth considering against 4+ enemy ships....still not common enough in mmost metas).

I recently won a local SC with the following IG-88B/C build. We had another identical build in the top 4 as well as a Crackshot/Glitterstim IG-88B/C list in 8th place after the Swiss.

IG-88B (36)
Predator (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)
IG-88C (36)
Predator (3)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)

Facing the Crackshot/Glitterstim build in the swiss with initiative bid allow me to control the engagement by either using Advanced Sensors and blocking him or denying him shots while ensuring I had shots with both of my IG-88s.
In the finals I faced a mirror build and having lost the initiative I played defensively and was able to react to his maneuvers.
The Aggressor is great ship however you have to get use to using it to be very effective with it.
Some tips; a S-loop right off the start in the first round will sometimes throw off your opponents game, don't forget they have a 4 K-turn as well and with an Advanced sensors boost and 4 K-turn your doing the equivalent of a 7 K-turn AND ending up with an evade token to boot! (I've found that often with the 1st tip they forget it has a 4 K-turn on the dial as well)

Thanks for the IG tips. I am always looking to see creative builds that might throw someone off. There are so good ideas here. I think I may run IG's, and try one of these.
