I actually have a viable Imperial Boba list. Sequel thread, now with Andrasta variant

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

Firstly, the list was built over the course of the thread and it got hard to follow and quite cluttered with different builds, and the final build ended up drastically different from the original list in the first post. Here is the old thread: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/199428-i-think-ive-made-a-viable-imperial-boba-list/page-1

Okay, this is to discuss these 2 lists:

Boba Fett

VI

Slave 1

Extra Munitions

Proton Bombs

Engine Upgrade

Homing Missiles

Choice of 3 point crew, or 2 point crew. Weapons Engineer, Kallus, Tactician, Rebel Captive, Navigator all help this build a lot and I haven't settled on one yet still. Kallus works great but I relentlessly forget to mark a target for him at the start of the game.

Vader

VI

TIE/X1

ATC

Engine Upgrade

Proton Rockets.

97/96 points. The idea behind this build is to always force your opponent to move first as no one at PS 10/11 bids lower than 98, at which point you gain a massive advantage with boost, Boba's ability, and Proton Bombs. Always moving last to drop Proton Bombs is nuts and Vader at PS 11 with Prockets is Wumbo.

This list works great against stuff like Phantom, Omega Leader, Palp Shuttle. A handful of low health ships that live or die based on having high PS crumble to this build.

The problem with it is quad TLT's of course, and fat turrets. Boba simply cannot trade shots with TLT's or fat turrets yet he has to do it because turrets, and Vader doesn't have autothrusters so he gets plinked to death.

Homing Missiles are also hard to get off with a large base ship. You can't slow roll with Boba so it's hard to fire them with both focus and TL. HM's don't require you spend the TL but spending it resets the problem for the next missile.

I've come up with a second version of the build though, and it fixes a few problems with the build, at least a little.

Boba Fett

VI

Andrasta

Proton Bombs

Seismic Charges

Conner Net

Engine Upgrade

Ysanne Isard

Darth Vader with:

VI, X1, ATC, Engine Upgrade, Prockets. 97 points

We've dumped the nice to have but hard to use Homing Missiles, we've fit Ysanne Isard in the build without having to drop the sub-98 point bid which is vital to this build, we've got both a Conner Net and a Proton Bomb for next level shenanigans and a 3rd bomb.

Ysanne helps us in the TLT and Fat Turret matchup.

Having both a post manuever mine and a pre-manuever bomb gives you a ton of versatility. Boba's Imperial ability should synergize real well with Conner Nets.

Additional options: Dropping the Prockets from Vader gives us 3 additional points to make the Seismic a second Proton Bomb. You could also drop Ysanne down to Bombardier to free up points. Would help trigger Conners but you'd lose your Ysanne's damage mitigation.

Thoughts? Especially on the second build.

Really enjoyed your other thread and watching your build come together, very well themed list in my opinion as well. Good to see it's still evolving! :) I've no doubt I don't nearly play as often as you do but Ysanne I've never been sold on but I guess depending on how your opponent rolls you could get a maximum of 5 evade tokens from her which I guess isn't a bad deal at all. I think you alluded to in a previous post however that Boba doesn't do a tonne of damage himself, that fact combined with his high pilot skill wouldn't you rather the crew be something do help this in a way such as Kallus or Weapons Engineer which I know you've played around with in the past?

Personally I would get the charges upgraded to extra proton bombs

They are great and can avoid the regen built into certain builds

Thoughts? Especially on the second build.

First thought: Why didn't you post this in the X-Wing Squad Lists Sub Forum, like everyone else does? :)

Second thought: If Boba Fett is relying on Ysanne Isard to stay alive, then he's already dead. He better have done his work by then.

Surely Imperial Boba by nature doesn't need Engine Upgrade? His ability allows him to reposition such that he catches his target in arc anyway. I suppose it does give him some fairly powerful arc dodging ability when combined with his ability.

I have found on occasion the engine upgrade helps to get targets back into the rear arc.

The point of the build is to go all in on the PS10 mobility. The extra distance covered by the EU is integral, Bobas ability mostly a bonus,

Squad List forum sucks, everyone that posts there has 13 posts and calls their thread, "scum list" or "tournament list" or some other garbage title that tells you nothing about their build. Not many people go there, so if I posted there I'd get 3 responses from someone with 41 posts and that'd be it. My thread would then buried by 12 other threads called "psycho tycho list" if I posted there.

If FFG enforced a requirement to title your thread in a descriptive manner it would be much better.

Against even a Patrol Leader Decimator I simply lose out on the damage trade, and late game I often have Boba with 3-4 damage cards on him. Having both a focus and an evade would help a ton. The things that give Boba trouble are high health, low agility turrets that can out trade me in damage and Ysanne mitigates that, should allow me extra turns to get damage in.

Now, despite not being a good matchup against turrets, Imperial Boba should be good at chasing down Dengar and all green Super Dash.

Also, Prockets on Vader is nuts. Dropping 5 hits into something helps me catch up in the damage department.

Yes.

I don't trigger Boba's ability that often. Usually one direction's 3 bank is blocked by an asteroid. It saves your ass occasionally though. Engine Upgrade does most of the arc dodging work.

Looks like a fun list. I'm still getting my head around bombs in the game, but I can definitely see their utility at PS 10 in particular.

I think this list is going to suffer against TIE swarms, and Crack Shot swarms that don't need to fly in formation in particular. The classic Howlrunner swarm doesn't like bombs, but Black/Omega Squadron TIEs can scatter to avoid them to some extent if needs be.

Fun fact: No one flies swarms in my area except me. No one flies 6x Crackshot except me.

People need to stop being afraid of swarms, they haven't been a thing since wave 4. You can just ignore them.

Sadly true. The only swarm player in our area doesn't get in enough matches anymore and that way always drops off terribly after the second game or so. Doesn't help that he seems to get no sleep at all.

Your local meta is quite different to mine then! :) We've got a decent number of TIE and Z95 swarms locally, and Crack Shot swarms are definitely starting to become a thing.

I wish more people would respect a good informative title in their threads... not saying that enforcing it is the way to go but I can't see another way :)

I like how FFG made Vader really good then in the same month released TLTs that basically make him a liability. Anyway... I love VI Bombing Boba. I just use the scum version though.

Do you really get good use out of Isard? I've never tried her on Firespray cause usually by the time you get a damage card you don't last much longer. I guess if she procs once, that's at least like having another shield. I kind of like Rebel Captive or even Gunner on FS. You are taking up a lot of points, so might as well make it not fun to shoot at or buff its offense.

at my store championship there was two Crackswarms, one with howl, one without, and a Vader + 3 Juke Comms Omegas

You correctly ID your weakness, but looks like a fun list. TLTs are the most common list I run up against.

The thing with this build is that Vader does a ton of the work and this is why Imperial Boba is in reality better than Scum Boba.

Gunner helps me in the Soontir matchup, and is a waste in the fat turret/TLT matchup. Rebel Captive makes Phantoms autodie even harder to Boba, but I can already delete them and it does nothing to turrets because turrets can just green with no downsides.

Rec Spec would help me defensively, but doesn't help me when I boost, which I do a ton.

Ysanne would better allow me to just trade damage with things. If I can drop a Procket and a range 1 boba shot into a Decimator, I can gain a leg up. Once I get to half health Boba will be more durable.

Conner Nets also synergize real well with Boba's ability. Set a 1 bank and use Boba's ability to angle them. I'll have put it down on the table and see how much Bombardier would help. Navigator would also help get Conners off easier.

So # of forum posts=Skill? If that's the case than Ficklegreendice must be the best player in the world? People lobbied for quite awhile to get sub forums all of that goes to waste when we don't use them. Second why not figure this stuff out on you're own? You're a competitive player so why can't you answer these questions yourself or at the very least do the work and test them yourself?

The problem with Scum Boba is that currently there is no good ace to fly beside him. Talonbane dies hardcore.

I agree with you that you need EU on Fett to make him more efficient. I just don't have a lot of luck getting bombs off against experienced players. They tend to avoid the danger zone very well and I end up losing Fett before he can use them (Prox Mines excepted; although I think that Conner Nets also would work well with this build as opposed to Proton Bombs).

Generally, yes. Some guy with no avatar and 13 posts probably isn't adding anything to the dicussion.

Secondly, the sub forums go to waste when you have to wade through 30 non-descriptive topic titles just to find a decent thread. That's why I refuse to go there. Someone titling their thread "palob?" has just made a thread I'm never going to click on. When all the threads are like that, I rarely go there.

With Proton Bombs, either your opponent forgets and they work out great, or your opponent doesn't forget and has to go out of his way to avoid them. You're always moving last pretty much, so if they avoid where your bomb would be and aren't in the blast radius you simply don't drop one.

How about this?

http://tinyurl.com/jrg2mpu

Two Conner Nets and a Homing Missile. Best of both worlds? Granted, no Isard, but I am not sure she's worth it considering the volume of damage you can output.

Nope, 98 points. There are lists that bid down to 97 points, but they don't have PS 10's in them. But there are 98 point PS 10 lists.

Soontir was tried early on, and he'd help in the survivability department against turrets, but he's lacking in offense. Prockets Vader allows me to delete something.
