Decloak ?

By Rogue 4, in X-Wing

So what is the order here.

Can I do it this way?

Intelligence Agent

Decloak

Advanced Sensors

Evade, focus, or barrel roll

Push the limit

Cloak

Can I do that? Is it a good idea?

Never flown the Phantoms so I am looking for some ideas

Sure, but you won't be shooting at anyone.

You could but it's not optimal. Cloaked Phantoms can't fire and Adv Sensors is taking up the spot for Adv Cloaking Device which leTs you cloak after attacking which you can't do if you're stressed which makes PTL a bad idea too. I'm no Phantoms expert but I've never seen em run like that.

Advanced sensors is a system upgrade so you can run it with ACD

I know you can't shoot when cloaked but would this get you closer to shot and be protected with an evade/focus?

Hmmm... Possibly. I have run against a similar setup, I think it was still VI instead of ptl though. It was definitely a pain to pin down with that extra pre-maneuver barrel roll. Ultimately work adv.sensor + PTL you'd want to be doing the same thing as a B or E wing with the same setup, which is to usually do a green maneuver and clear the stress, but then your amazingly unpredictable Phantom becomes somewhat more predictable

What is a "normal" phantom build? I assume they do not use Advanced Sensors?

Fire Control System, Advanced Cloaking Device, Veteran Instincts is the "standard." Sometimes they take Sensor Jammer instead of FCS or add a crew member like Kallus or Intel Agent.

VI, FCS, ACD is standard. Crew varies.

okay this is what I was thinking:

Echo

Intel Agent

VI

FCS

ACD

Whisper

Intel Agent

VI

FCS

ACD

Omega Leader

VI

100 pts

My area we are running into squads like:

Syndicate Thug x4 with all having TLT and Unhinged Astromechs

or

T-70 x4 all having R2 Astromechs and Integrated Astromechs

or

TIE swarms all having Crackshots

Pilots

------

Soontir Fel (35) TIE Interceptor (27), Royal Guard TIE (0), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

“Whisper” (39) TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Omega Leader” (26) TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

100 points

Buzzsaw Phantom: Whisper, Fire Ctrl Sys, Adv Cloaking Device, Gunner

  • It can be expensive at 43 points, but you get an attack, and if you hit, you immediately cloak and FCS gives you a target lock on the defender and Whisper gives you a focus token.
  • If you miss with your attack, FCS gives you a target lock on the defender, then Gunner triggers giving you another attack with a target lock to use for modifying. After that attack, you immediately cloak and FCS gives you another target lock on the defender unless you didn't use the first one. And Whisper gives you a focus token if you hit.

Current list I am playtesting.

Sigma Sq. - Stealth Device, Advanced Sensors, Mara Jade

3x Avenger Sq. - Autothrusters.

Phantom cloaks and blocks with 5 green dice plus evade/focus, decloaks rarely until the end game. Interceptors do as much damage to tlt carriers and other turrets as possible before the end game to protect the phantom and give it a chance to clear whatever remains during the end game.

Probably won't win a tournament but it's fun to fly.

Decloacking is the first thing in the activation phase (that is explicit in the modified decloacking reference card).

That means you cannot use Intelligence Agent before decloacking.

But you can:

Decloack (at start of activation phase)

Intelligence agent (start of your activation)

Adv. Sensors

....

If you are going up against TLT Y-Wings I'd replace the FCS with Sensor Jammer. I run dual Phantom lists, with the following list used in three recent local tournaments for 3-2, 3-2 and 2-3 (w-l):

- Whisper: ACD, FCS, Gunner and VI

- Echo: ACD, FCS, Gunner and VI

- Wampa

Puts out a lot of hurt....but TLTs are a nightmare......can't take down the Y or K wings fast enough, low AGI ships tend to negate most of the benefit of the FCS/Gunner combo.

I'm now running a two ship list which has FCS replaced by Sensor Jammer on both Phantoms and dropped Wampa. This list is more resilient against TLTs.....until you meet Recon Spec/TLT K-wings.....

So what is the order here.

E: the full FAQ quote ftr:

This card should read:

At the start of the activation phase, after players have resolved all other

abilities that trigger at the start of the activation phase, each ship may spend

a cloak token to decloak, starting with the ship with the lowest pilot skill

(using initiative to break ties). When a ship decloaks, it must choose

one of the following effects:

•perform a barrel roll using the [2] maneuver template.

•perform a boost using the [2] maneuver template.

Decloaking is not an action or a maneuver, and a ship can decloak while it has

a stress token.

A ship cannot decloak if it would overlap another ship or an obstacle token, or if

the maneuver template would overlap an obstacle token.

After all decloaking has been resolved, the activation phase continues as

normal

If you want PTL shenanigans with a Phantom, you're better off with SPA:

Decloak

Get Evade from SPA

PTL from Evade

Focus or BR

Green Move

BR, Focus, or Cloak (or any action not taken)

Note that no Advanced Sensors is needed, so you can keep FCS or Sensor Jammer (preferably the latter for turns you want to shoot). Of course, you've given up VI and ACD, which probably isn't worth it ...
