What do you carry your fleet in?

By cjk1975, in X-Wing

I'm a big fan of Feldherr. I've been using their hard case for about a year now, which is extremely rugged. https://www.feldherr.net/feldherr-x-wing-hard-case-with-shoulderstrap/a-52461/

It is quite bulky however, so it's worth taking a look at some of their smaller cases if you don't need to carry vast amounts of stuff with you all the time. :)

I use mirco-hangers inside either the core box or the one I got form my Team Covenant order. My collection is a bit too big to cart around everywhere now, so I pack for the list.

I picked up some large cardboard Magic card boxes with separate lids; the kind with two inserts to make 3 rows.

My ships fit while remaining on the stands. They move around a little, but they are not a not going to damage each other like metal figures.

If you use a Gozanti, does that make this thread about Carrier Carriers?

I store my models in KR multicases; when I go to a tournament I only actually take what I'm going to use, and transport everything I need in the starter set box.

Plano 787 tackle box: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00469G2JO/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1456714493&sr=8-1π=SX200_QL40&keywords=plano+787&dpPl=1&dpID=41Ak1Ptmp-L&ref=plSrch

I have almost 100 ships in it. The huge ships don't fit (obviously), but as long as you don't have duplicates of the larger large ships, it all fits just fine.

I also use this, it's nice to have the two smaller trays for tokens, and there's a variety of different sized spaces in the trays. The top will also fit epics if you want to, its long enough for a corvette but it's a tight fit.

Not sure how you fit 100 ships in there though, I have around 60 and it's getting a bit cramped with dials and cards in there as well. And that's with some of the smaller ships just piled on top of one another.

First thing you'll want to do to get yourself more space in there is take the cards out and put them in this: http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-PRO-BINDER-Leatherette-Sideloading/dp/B004FVJDV2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1456751713&sr=8-3&keywords=ultra+pro+binder

I have two of these binders, one for pilot cards and one for upgrades. I have everything sleeved in FF card sleeves. That really helps so that the upgrade cards all stay put in the side loading pockets (two cards per pocket). Everything else though should fit in the tackle box (except epic, sure they might fit, but they eat up a lot of valuable space.

I'm a fan of this one for the upgrade cards

I also bought the bigger one for my pilot cards

How do you post images here? I'm trying to figure it out, but it isn't allowing me. I was going to show you how 100+ ships fit in a tackle box.

I'll break down where everything is in mone if you think 100+ ships still wouldn't fit. Since you have my exact tackle box, I'll just start from the top and work my way down. You should be able to follow along...

The lid has two compartments, one on either side. Here is where I store my rebel and imperial dials. They weren't too jumbled of a mess, as I have several baggies separating them all, and it will be a snug fit for the empire after wave 8 and imp aces, but I think they will fit.

Next is under the lid. On the left I have my templates, on the right I have my damage decks and a few small bases, and in the middle I have bombs, range rulers, asteroids/debris, a hound's tooth, and a lambda. A jumpmaster and a ghost should fit in here too I think. I have the lambda in its plastic still, but the 666 is loose. Behind lhat main compartment is a deep, narrow tray. On each side I have several small bases (partly to keep things away from the lid when it shuts, I've bent cardboard corners that way), and then large bases on one side and and all the large base cardboard on the other side. In the middle I have all the scum dials in a few baggies. Pretty sure that 5 more dials will fit for wave 8. But for the large cardboard bases... theres not enough room for 4 more. I'll just put them in the main cavity under the lid here I think. If they fit.

Ok, lets move into the front now. Open up the front face and there are 4 plano trays. Let's start with the deeper one up top. In the 2 large spaces, I have a VT49 and 3 K-wings in one (stacked interlocking) and both types of rebel PWTs in the other (somewhat on top of each other). In the smaller spaces, I have (or will have) 4 T-70s, 6 TIE/fos, and 2 TIEs from the gonzati (the ties are all two to a space), 4 B-wings (two to a space as well), and 2 HWKs sharing a slightly larger space. 24 ships in all.

Then we have the 3 thinner trays underneath. I have them separated by faction. They all have their small cardboard bases separated out by ship type as well. In the rebel tray, I have 5 T-65s, 4 Z-95s, and 4 Y-wings in the larger boxes in the last line. There will also be an attack shuttle in there. There's still like 4 more spots for ships (probably getting a couple more Z's for a Blount firing squad). Then in the imperial tray, we have (will have) 4 bombers, 6 interceptors, 3 phantoms, 4 TAPs, and also the ship pegs are in here. And finally for scum we have 8 Z-95s, 4 Y-wings, 3 starvipers, and 4 K-fighters. 14 ships, 17 ships, and 19 ships respectively.

But that's not all the ships you say! You're right. In one of the side compartments, there are two small trays. One has all my dice and tokens I will need. The other has 2 E-wings, 4 Scyks, 4 TIE advanced, 6 A-wings, and has room for possibly 3 mist hunters. If it doesn't Z's can go over there and make room. 19 more right there.

And lastly, in the other side compartment is one deeper small tray. In the two bigger sections of the tray, I have 6 ships; 2 firesprays in one, and 2 IGs and 2 punishers in the other. The punishers interlock quite well and you can lay the IGs in there so that their noses sit beneath and on top of the punishers. Then I have 8 TIES and will have 4 defenders (I have (will have) a 5th, but it wont fit anywhere...) 18 more ships there.

There's a pocket in the back I haven't done anything with, so maybe I can buy something to put back there to store my current list in or something.

So there you have it. Over 100 ships. I'm set until after imperial veterans. Then it will be time to buy another one of these boxes. This storage system is the easiest one I think. Spent $140 for the 2 binders and the tackle box and that's all I needed to do.

I do waste a lot of space because I prefer to keep my pilot cards in individual sleeves, and upgrades in the tray compartments in stacks.....

And my bad, I just realized that I have basically the same as you but with three trays, not four in the middle.

Either way I'm long overdue for a redesign on how everything fits in there so thanks for the tips!

Right now, it's all still in the original core set box, and the large and huge ships are in their original boxes along with tokens and dials and things. I have 21 ships occupying the slot that originally held just the X-Wing and TIEs.

host them on something else first. Imgur works well.

This looks perfect. What is this???

Those are the Plano trays. I know the front ones are 3750's. They're modular so you can make the spaces different widths depending on your ships. I use these in a 1374 tackle box. Only ship I currently have that doesn't fit is the Hound's Tooth, but i basically just modified the plastic tray out of one of the core boxes and put it in the top of the tackle box to set it in so it doesn't bounce all over the place in there.

Same, as for Hound's Tooth you I dropped it (a deep plano) in but since it has a ton of room to bounce around I just put some scrap plastic behind it to keep it from moving, eventually I will get some foam as a more permanent solution.

In a gold embossed trunk carried by my servants and lined with the skins of my defeated enemies.

Muhahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

I can fit any list inside a MTG deckbuilder box. The ships stay at home and lives on a tidy display shelf. I have a drawer for all the rest, token bags, a card binder. A small hardware kit box fits all the tokens I need to run 8 ships, though I have never run a swarm yet. I did put all 5 of my Imps in the carry case and then fit in 3 rebels, so I'm pretty sure I could run a swarm out of that little box. I put a Falcon and a Outrider in there and call the list Unhealthy Lunch because it's a donut and a pancake in a greasy box. Sorry MTG, you're not actually that greasy, haha ;)

I have a battlefoam 720 case with pre-cut x-wing trays. I had the case from my warhammer 40k days and my FLGS had the trays on the shelf so it was practically a no-brainer. If X-wing had been my first miniatures game, I probably would have gone with something cheaper.

I found a deep storage box at Staples with a lid, tray sold seperate that takes all the tokens and cards. For the ships, by chance I found co-op mini eclair trays could fit 6 in each tray and 2 fit nicely on top of the rest. It'll do for now :)

Here is my solution. I'm really curious what many others do, with so many owning well over 100 ships. Storage solutions will always be in flux.

For all the cards and upgrades I use this:

And for my tokens I use the below, which really comes in handy because the tray is small enough to leave on the table and just take what I need when I need it.

http://www.planomolding.com/hardware/storage-systems/stowawayr-organizers/3500-size-stowaway-utility-box

I recently however switched over to using a large duffle bag with the Plano trays. I bought 4 additional 3750 trays for $15 when they were on sale last year, knowing I'd need them for over flow. The bag easily fits 5 trays (6 tightly) inside, plus another on top, held down by the handles that velcro together. I feel like this will last me through probably wave 11, before I'll have to find another solution.

I'm currently using two Plano tackle boxes, but have a pluck foam version of the Battlefoam 1520XL on order. I'm hoping that will fit my entire fleet, plus the shiny new Trollworks tray I picked up for tourneys.

Plano ftw!

I use a Feldherr case. For tournaments, I pull out one of the foam trays and fill it with the ships I need and all tokens and asteroids. Once wave 8. Is released, I will be starting on my second box.

Feldherr Maxi. They make foam trays specifically for X-Wing figures, tokens etc.!

For you guys using the Feldherr cases, how big is your collection? I would think it would get too bulky once you reach about 70 ships.

I am at about thirty ships and I agree, I have a Mini Plus enough for two different 100 point lists and tokens,

While also having my Maxi carrying epics etc.

It already feels slightly bulky, but nonetheless the preparation time is minimal and I am swiftly set for a match without fiddling eith boxes, bags etc. So it is a trade off imo.
