Hello all. Can someone help convince me on zuckuss? I really like his ability and I want him to be awesome, but I can't get past the whole B wing flaw, where I don't want to put all the points in a ship that is gonna die. Sure that evade is gonna be nice, and with Juke you can make quite a buzzsaw build for him, but still that 1 agility can melt so quick if not careful. Are there any good setups people have found to try and maximize his ship life?
I want to use Pilot Zuckuss
I've been trying 4-LOM with Outlaw Tech to open up the dial or PtL and Gonk for Evade/Regen. But neither of those have really offered a solution when the enemy decides to focus fire. Sensor Jammer is an Option but expensive and I prefer FCS since my action choices are more defensive. Other than that I fly him with Manaroo and/or Palob and hope those targets are more appealing until he can do some damage.
Instead of maximizing his lifetime, I would try to get the most out if his short life, while keeping him relatively cheap. What about Juke + 4-LOM crew + Electronic baffle?
Edited by UbulVI, Gonk, FCS, Title should make for a reasonably elusive (PS 9, barrel roll) with regen as you need it. 34 points with illicit and mod slots still open as needed for, say Experimental Interface. That's not excessive for a centerpiece ship.
You buy one for the crew to put on another ship, thats it. The ship will die to Palp Aces, TLTs or Brobots.

And this ladies and gentlemen is the exact opposite of what you need to do. Instantly down play a ship before it even hits the table. The ships will be great and has many viable options for it. I personally would at most max out at 35~ points for a named one though.

I haven't used zuckuss as much yet, but i've run 4lom a number of times and beaten palp aces.
He's Scum's Ten Nunb.
He's got a purely offensive ability, but not one strong enough to allow for non-offensive actions, and is the most expensive pilot for the ship in question.
4-Lom is Scum's Keyan Farlander.
Sheds stress incredibly well, and even gets an upside to doing it.
Fortunately, there may be room to build Tankiness on Zuckuss, as he's far cheaper than Ten.
He's Scum's Ten Nunb.
nah, he's not abhorrently overpriced
FFG learned that much, at least (then again he's the same cost and PS as keyan when you give him the title)
Zuckuss isn't and will never be an ace. V.I + Jammers + title hit 32 points; 35 buys you dengar...actually, that's not half bad ![]()
You can also build him cheap, maybe even just V.I + Dengar crew. 32 points for a PS 9 glass cannon with some mods. You can even buzzsaw him for 35, and use his ability to maybe force the FCS trigger.
Don't think Juke will be a thing, too much hassle and doesn't leave the dial open. IF the Misthunter has one HUGE thing going for it, it's sloops baby ![]()
other big takeaway: the crew/system slot rid you of predator dependence. FCS or Dengar will have you covered there, letting you build into other options. Of the two, imo FCS leaves far more flexibility open in the crew slot as the system slot is just jammers and sensors leftover, but it obviously doesn't have an immediate effect.
As for ept, the easy winners (as with every ship that doesn't need ptl/predator) are V.I and crackshot. PS 9 is, obviously, fairly decent and I guess Xizor will like the company in the fairly exclusive "V.I to PS 9 and still hit like a truck" group. Really don't think Zuckuss can compare with Xizor in the mid-high thirties, though, for obvious reasons of durability + dial
finally, if you want Zuckuss to live longer you should use scum Biggs (Palob)

In my opinion, having tested Zuckuss and 4-LOM, I can say it's a decent ship, but not great. There's plenty of cool tricks you can do with it, but the 8 HP 1 agility means that it will often get focused down before it has pulled its weight in a game.
It will be fun to play in casual lists (4-lom with EU, Advanced. Sensors and Outlaw tech is surprisingly fun), but unless the generics are really well priced, I doubt we'll be seeing g1-a in competitive Scum lists any time soon
Edited by LordBladesThe price worries me.
It's got a point higher PS and an extra green, which is really justification enough to price the cheapest generic at 23pts.
Which means that in the era of TLTs, it's dead in the water. ![]()
Alex even admitted recently that they didn't expect TLT to do as well as it did; I really don't think they pieced it into the very next waves calculations.
Zuckuss, for his part, is a B-wing, and his crew mate is... Underwhelming. He's got some fun toys, but that's about as far as it goes.
if it's PS > 2, it simply cannot be declared DOA in a TLT meta
because they'll merc the **** out of a goldie or a warden before it even gets to fire
not to mention higher PS Tbeam (misthunter) can just ruin a TLT by bringing the doughnut hole to them

This really dpeneds on what you're running it with. My favorite list I've flown so far with the G1a is 4lom with zuckuss crew, title, wired, sensor jammer, palob with tlt and tactician, torkhil with ion turret an dtatician and a naked pirate (haven't relooked at it since the jumpmaster released to see if I wanna change anything, not sure I love wired for the EPT, and might try FCS for the system slot). So far every single game I've played with it people focus on the hwks first, which leaves 4lom free to do his thing and wreck face.
Vassal is a very small selection of the player populace and just because a few have tried it does not mean it's worth writing it off. I feel people forget how long EU took to get popular on Han builds. Give things time before you start wagging your finger.

On the other hand, if some people tried something and it didn't work, there is no good reason for them to assume it works (and they did something wrong) without any proof.
Edited by LordBladesIt's also fundamentally a ship archetype we've seen before - keyan is also a PS7 offensive powerhouse on a nearly identical hull - and he sees only niche play as well.
With that in mind, I wouldn't write him off entirely (when keyan comes out to play, he can be frightfully effective!), but nor is he likely to be a staple of squadbuilds.
4LOM might be, though. Stress control is a new trick for Scum, and he's a pretty capable ship to be doing it with.
(Anyone else wish chopper had been scum, by the way?)

Indeed. He strikes me as the ideal tractor beam caddy for scummers - high enough PS to fire before the rest of a list, tough enough not to be one-shotted before he fires, an 'extra die' ability that works with secondary weapons and enough supporting upgrade slots to be confident it'll actually hit.
I'll be honest, I think it's another starviper - not that it's by any means a bad ship, but that the number of times you'll see one without the title compared to seeing the Mist Hunter itself is very low.

The way I see it, the main attraction of the title is Barrel Roll for 1 point. The tractor beam is just a bonus
Edited by LordBladesThis is my current list plan for Zuckuss. He might survive longer than usual just because people are shooting at other parts of the list first... ![]()
I say you put old Zuckuss next to a Contract scout that is packing "Draw their Fire" and Gonk, then skim off any crits coming your way.
I've also had amazing times with 4-lom packed with Sensor jammer next to Palob, after an evade token and a cancelled (Hit) you're not taking much damage.
A Meeting of Legends
Zuckuss (28)
Boba Fett (39)
Dengar (33)
= 100
Zuckuss may be decent. But if you bring him to a sC or Regionals the better players will destry him. Unless you havecsomething scarier to take the heat away.
People equate this ship to the Scum B wing. That is exactly why he will not see competitive play.
Yes in a rare isolated meta a list with Keyan or Ten wins but these are isolated.
Scum TLTs will kill him in a turn.
Brobots will eat him for breakfast.
Palp Aces will arc dodge him.
Rebels will leave him so stressed he will have no actions.
There is nothing that will make Zuckuss out there competitive. He will be fun but thats it.
Its a hard X wing world out there.
How about this:
Zuckuss (38):
Mind link, advanced sensor, cloaking device, Dengar, mist hunter, tractor beam
Talonbane (33):
Mind link, engine upgrade
Palob (29):
Mind link, TLT, Gonk
Shared focuses to increase combat potential and free actions (provided from Palob), Talonbane can use engine upgrade to get his 5 dice attack. Zuckuss can use his decloak to hopefully get in the same situation and Palob steals tokens to make their jobs easier.
EDIT: you can do shenanigans like
- Palob moves, focuses for everyone
- Zuckuss decloak forward, advanced sensor target lock, k-turns behind the enemy
- Talon bane does a green (clears stress) and either boost or adds another focus or takes a target lock.

Totally agree.
To add to it: who says Palp Aces, TLTs and Brobots make it out of Wave 8 alive? I personally think TLTs at the very least will be much less prevalent because Tractor Beam and Munitions will likely be a thing. While I expect Brobots and Palp to be somewhat fine, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they weren't.
Maybe Zuckuss is the new meta. =P
With 4 attack dice to the TLT's 2, Zuckuss can have a hay day. If you have 4-lom on your crew, you can stop the enemy from using focus on evade dice, making Palp aces sweat even with the extra 1 defence. Wave 8 will bring new things, and a build that can deal with high agility and high health with equal efficiencywill come out laughing.
