General Weiss Model in tournament play

By Mace Windu, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So I know what the official answer is going to be but I just wanted to see what the general player base thought.

As you all know you get a standard AT-ST in the core set. You also get a General Weiss Character card. (and not to flog a dead horse too much don’t even get me started on the fact I can't use my 3rd imperial officer as a regular due to lack of card as well)

Now considering that the only significant difference between the regular AT-ST and General Weiss's one is his upper torso and head and some absolutely awful weapon upgrades (which I would sub out for the standard armament anyway) would any of you consider it OK to play the standard AT-ST as your General Weiss model in a sanctioned tournament? Of course you forego playing with his unique command card as well as the other command cards in the Expac that do not come in any of the other expacs, but TBH I'm really not keen to buy the most expensive Expac just for a very small plastic head and shoulders.

Of course some might just call me crazy for playing the general in the first place but I have a soft spot for the AT-ST, but the "awkward" rules for the standard version as well as the additional "Generals Orders" & "Epic Arsenal" make the extra 2 points worth it over the standard version.

Thoughts?

as long as you make it clear to your opponents that you're running Weiss and not a regular AT-ST I would say it's fine.

It depends on your opponent. If he is fine with that "modification" go ahead, but if he is not and you don't have the original model with you, you have no legal army to play with. You would take the risk to be disqualified.

Rules are pretty clear on that point.

Someone else, who actually bought the most expensive Expac just for a very small plastic head and shoulders, might feel offended.

And any participant of the tournament may have you disqualified, not just your opponent.

The General is inside the AT-ST with the lid shut and has fitted the weapons from the starter set. Simple.

Yeah, my feeling is use the actual model for any kind of tournament. You can most likely borrow it if you didn't want to buy it.

I doubt you would find anyone with any problem with this for the "modification" reason, but you technically bought the general in the core set. There's a model and his card. Both of which are not proxied, and functional to the game specs. Same base size, correct deployment card.

You would be missing out on his skirmish cards if you didn't purchase the xpac, but otherwise I wouldn't see any reason you couldn't play him that way.

I don't see the issue.

The General already comes with the pieces to build his AT-ST in a standard configuration *anyway*, so who's to say you didn't buy the expac and just not use the *very optional* gun and dude pieces?

I also agree that the guns are awful. Really some of the dumbest looking pieces they've made.

If they object just replace the model with the card version with his picture on it. :)

If you make it clear that it's Weiss, and not a regular AT-ST, and they want to kick you out of the tournament for that, I would have reservations about ever playing in that environment again to be honest.

If they object just replace the model with the card version with his picture on it. :)

It's not allowed to play the cardboard pieces in a tournament. ;)

You managed to not sculpt an ewok and/or Chewbacca poking out of the top? You're made of sterner stuff than I.

I'm not a fan of the Weiss model so I'd rather use a closed hatch myself. Wouldn't mind at all if someone said they were using the standard AT-ST model for the general's figure as a proxie as long as he/she had the deployment card (which the player should since it came with the core set).

Thanks all for the feedback, I should be able to borrow General Weiss's head and Torso should the need arise, and one day in the future When I REALLY need the Generals unique command card I can live the dream of playing General Weiss, eAT-ST & eSC2-M Repulsor Tank :).

But I think I will invest in other much needed expacs at this time.
