Next Ship(s)

By mcworrell, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello all,

I just got Armada for Christmas and I have played a few games with my son and a friend. After my first few game I saw the ISD and Home One on sale so I grabbed both. My question is....What next? I would focus on the the Rebels, but I am the only person I know with the game so I'm supplying both sides with ships.

My initial thoughts are both the Imp and Rebel Squadron packs, but I'm not sure where to go from there. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Dice. Buy dice.

But yeah, the fighter packs are good, I don't play rebels, so I don't know what to recommend, but I do know you want the Neb-b expansion for at least the XI-7 upgrade card. For Imperials, you can't go wrong with a Gladiator expansion, and maybe a Raider if you're feeling saucy. Mostly, certain ships lend themselves to certain playstyles, but there are a few good all-around ships.

Just remember, whatever you get, just have fun with it!

After the fighter packs I'd recommend the Gladiator for Empire, Assault Frigate for Rebellion. Like ianediger said though, whatever you get - have fun with it!

Cheap additions early are the dice and extra maneuver tool (only build the 2nd one for Speed 2 movement).

Ships, well skies the limit. Fighter packs are reasonable starting points, but the Assault Frigate and the Gladiator add so much to the game. It's mostly either watch for sales or buy as you'd like to try them.

Great ideas guys.

I'm still trying to figure out my style of play, but I am having a great time and a little obsessed with the game right now. I'm using camelcamelcamel to keep track of prices on Amazon, but it is hard to be patient.

I really like the idea about a second movement tool....had not thought about that.

Kind of in the same boat but some people made some good suggestions. I think the Assault Frigate for the Rebels and a Gladiator for the Imperials. I am addicted as well, lol.

Also seems ffg is changing how online stores sell products vs brick stores. So unless prices are huge difference maybe but at a LGS if you have one.

I found playing at the local store gives me new ideas on play style

Seeing as you now have an ISD and a MC80, my suggestions for purchases would go in the following order:

1) Dice - 3 of each color just won't cut it.

2) Assault Frigate - You like Rebels, and this is the baseline for all Rebel capital ships.

3) Gladiator - Imperial MVP

4) Fighter Packs - One of each (Rebel / Imperial / Rogues) will give you a lot of customization, and the chance to experiment which squadrons work best with your play style.

Thanks Biggs. Love your blog by the way. Tons of useful info that has really helped me on the strategy side of things.

I was able to pick up a cheap Neb-B on eBay. I'm now thinking about waiting on squadrons and either getting a Gladiator or the Rogues and an extra set of dice.

On one hand the Gladiator could even out my fleets a little, or give the imps an advantage, on the other hand the rogues set looks like it is a lot of fun. I feel like I can't go wrong either way, but wanted to see if anyone had thoughts.
