Is Stealth Device worth 3 points on a 2-agility ship?

By balindamood, in X-Wing

Or should I just go with hull or shield upgrade?

Without knowing any special abilities, synergies of tactics that may come into play? Hull.

Probably none of the above? What're you putting it on?

never invest in fickle green dice

The only time I would consider it is Luke Skywalker with lone wolf

It's not even worth it on 3 agility unless you also have lone wolf or AT as well to up your chances it wont fail first time.

On 2 agility go hull upgrade its a sure thing.

I beg to differ.

Z-95; Proton Rockets; Stealth Device.

I flew a few of these at a tournament a couple of weeks back. Stealth Device was worth its weight in gold. Nobody found them too much fun or too easy to fly against.

Generally no, it's not worth the points on a 2 agility ship,

It could have potential on a Luke or Poe using R2-F2 and another way to modify dice (PTL, Kyle/Garvin giving a focus), but there are way better options for them.

Generally no.

A Hull Upgrade will be much more reliable.

A Stealth Device on a 2 AGI ship is only better than a hull if :

  1. the 2 Agility ship is dealing with ships with reduced attack capability (e.g. 2 attack and can't modify dice)
  2. the 2 Agility ship has bonuses to die modification (e.g. Luke Skywalker, Poe)
  3. the 2 Agility ship has Proton Rockets (only ever Z-95s)
  4. the 2 Agility ship already has high health

I have been running shield upgrade on Torkil Mux for a year. Just occurred to me I could free up a point with stealth, but cannot decide if it is worth it.

Are you running a 35 point Soontir? No? Then don't use Stealth Device. :)

Or there are a few other uses for it, but not many. I would say none for a 2 agility ship. If you want to put it on an X-wing, just use integrated astromech instead.

I beg to differ.

You needed the points badly enough to avoid just flying 20pt Procket Prototypes? You'd be buying a much tastier dial and action bar, and the ability to shoot at full power even after getting swatted a little.

A Stealth Device let Major Rhymer one-shot a StarViper last weekend. Absolutely worth it for me.

I almost always loose it straight away, so no, go with hull.

Moldy crow Palob can make it do work.

Moldy Jan can too.

A little harsh. It's decent enough on any PS6+ Interceptor (The synergy with Autothrusters is considerable); on a standard 3-agility ship it's roughly equivalent to a Hull Upgrade, albeit encouraging you to save tokens for defence whilst Hull is upgrade-independent. It's a meta-call: If you expect to face a lot of 2-attack or relatively-poorly-modified 3-attacks, go for it. If you're terrified of crits, it's also a decent pick. If you expect to face heavily modified 3-attack ships, Crackshot, Vader, or 4-die attacks in general, though, Hull starts to look more attractive.

Agi2, though? That's much harder to justify it with; you basically need a Agi2 ship that is able to manipulate results such that it's effectively more than Agi 2 - Poe and Luke being the classic examples; Moldy Crows being a more marginal example. Poe has access to Autothrusters, though, and Luke is now welded to Integrated Astromech... so the X-wings in the game at present just haven't the upgrade 'space' these days. A little ironic that the supposedly customisable ship is now one of the least adaptable, but that's game vs fluff for you. ;)

With sufficient slow-rolling, the Moldy Crow title can serve as a Super-Poe pilot-ability.

Palob can also lower the opponent's offensive potential, making him the ideal SD Hwk.

...Not that I've done the comparative math, but he is the closest HWK pilot for using the ability, lol

I beg to differ.

The YT-2400 also is a 2 agility ship that has access to missiles. Proton Rockets are a particularly nice option if you happen to be running outrider + HLC also, as you now can make a range 1 attack.

I beg to differ.

You could go with a Scyk.... No, the stealth Headhunter is probably better.

in 2 weeks probably not.

M3-A Interceptor: Cartel Spacer (14)

Guidance Chips (0)

"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (2)

Proton Rockets (3)

Z-95 Headhunter: Binayre Pirate (12)

Proton Rockets (3)

Stealth Device (3)

For one more point I think the m3a is a better delivery vehicle.

As for stealth on other ships I only run it on soontir, even other interceptors I run hull instead on. I used to think stealth device was good but now I truly think it's not that good.

Which just shows how sad the Scyk is. Too expensive for its roll and a tax to give it teeth besides.

Hell to the No.

There are too many ways to land automatic damage and hit effects to strip it off. It's becoming debatable whether the 3Ag ships really want it or not as well. Especially with Imperial lists that can take all sorts of cheap filler like FO's, Tempests, and APs. Three points is a pretty penny when you're trying to fill out that last ship slot.

Assuming unmodified dice 3 attack dice against 2 agility leads to about .9 expected damage. 3 attack dice against 2 agility leads to about .67 expected damage.

With a focus 3v3 leads to .64 expected damage while 3v2 leads to 1.02 expected damage.

This is not much in terms of damage reduction and I think in almost every case you are better off with a hull upgrade unless you're running 3 natural defense dice with multiple actions.
