The Value of Oridium Ore

By Lotr_Nerd, in Game Masters

So I ran the Debts to Pay adventure with my Force and Destiny Party as a filler episode in the campaign, since on of the players was gone and the others are trying to get out of the debt the party auccrued when he purchased a ship earlier so that they could escape offworld without consulting the rest of the party.Anyway when we got to the part with the crates of Oridium Ore one of the players inquired as to how many crates were filled with Oridium so I rolled a d10 and told him 10 they then proceeded to load up their ship with the ore, at the end of the adventure they informed Bargos that the mine was a bust(they failed to stop the destruction of the generators), gave Bargos the money and signed NDAs not to talk about the mine being destroyed and kept the ore. My question is how much would the 10 crates be worth since the ore is found in only two places and the Empire controls the other location.Help me fellow GMs you are my only hope.

Maybe Aurodium? Like, the stuff that’s supposed to be the Star Wars version of Gold?

How much do you want it to be worth? I would be more interested to see how they can fence that much Aurodium, given that the extreme restrictions on where the stuff can come from.

I mean, each crate might technically be worth a million credits, but if there’s no one in the galaxy who would be willing to fence it for you, or buy it for 1/1000th of that value, then there’s not much you can do — is there?

That could lead to all sorts of interesting shenanigans and involvements with Hutts, Black Sun, and other criminal organizations. And maybe they have ties into the Imperial underworld, who has ties to the Grand Moffs, and $DEITY-only-knows-what.

In Star Wars Gamer #2 "Chance Cube: Random Cargo Generator" there is listed:

Type Value per Metric Ton

Industrial Ore/Gems 1,000 credits
Strategic Ore/Gems 5,000 credits
Semi-Precious Ore/Gems 10,000 credits
Precious Ore/Gems 25,000 credits
Also in other sources i found these minerals. Maybe you take a similar Mineral of the same rarity.
Strategic Metals and Minerals
  • Durelium - 100-200 cr per kilo
  • Gold - 10-15 cr per gram
  • Hyperbarides - varies, price controlled by Imperial regulation, generally 2,200 cr per kilo
  • Hollinium - 750 cr / gram
  • Maranium - 300 cr / gram
  • Vintrium - 500 cr / gram
  • Ilinium - 250 cr / gram
  • Frasium - 1,000 cr / gram
  • Mythra- 12-18 cr / gram
  • Platinum - 15-20 cr / gram
  • Quadrillum - 50-75 cr / kilo
  • Silver - 150-200 cr / kilo
  • Hfredium - 110 cr / kilo

This isn't the only example. JoY says characters can buy tibana 25% off. Off what? In the end it really depends on the economy of the game you're running. Maybe the ore isn't worth anything until processed.

Doesn't matter what it is worth, it is a matter of how much you can sell it for.

It is stolen.. my guess it is less then the 100k profit. not sure without looking at the adventure, what was the money you were suppose to collect. But for my game It got into a VERY heated arugment when the Mine foreman was demanding some of the Profits (credits in the safe) to offset the damages incurred from the droid revolt.

The black marketer you are selling it to, will have to remove the manufacture stamp, likely by remelting it, and find a buyer that is willing to buy it near market costs without asking questions on the origins. They might just decide to call in some bounty hunters, or see if he can get a finders fee to Borgos (or whomever) and make more credits or gain favors without dirtying his hands

I'd say a black market or something, since it is stolen from a Hutt from a mining station owned by a Hutt
