So, in a match against my son last night he measured distance to see if I was in range for an attack.

Range 3 touched the nubs on the front of my base but not the base itself.

Are those nubs considered part of the base in this instance?

I let him attack by the way.

This used to be in the FAQ, but I can't find it now. If I remember correctly, the nubs are not considered when measuring range.

It's in the RRG now. See "Guides" on page 12.

In short, the "nubs" ot "guides" as they are called in the rules, only counts for overlapping purpouses. When measuring range you ignore them.
