Abilities outside of actions

By wolvesbaneII, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Looking for clarification:

Can you use abilities or spend fatigue before, between and after the two actions you receive during a hero turn (aside move actions which can be interrupted).

For example,

You may clean up your images as a conjurer at the end of your turn after you have performed two actions.

or

You may spend fatigue before you perform your first action or after you perform your second one (as well as during a move or in between actions).

I believe Zaltyre clarified this in a previous post but I cannot find it.

Thanks

Short answer: yes.

Details:

In general, you can use the abilities on cards when their trigger has been fulfilled. Sometimes this is an event ("when a monster attacks a hero") or more often, it is a time window ("at the start of your turn...") If an ability does not have a timing trigger printed, the implicit timing trigger is "during your turn." The hero turn has several steps/phases. "During your turn" specifically refers to step 3, "perform actions." So, if an ability has a trigger of "during your turn," (or doesn't have an explicit trigger like the Knight's "Challenge" skill, for example, such that the trigger defaults to "during your turn") then you can use that skill/ability only if you don't violate the following:

1) You've begun step 3 (you've done your start of turn abilities, refreshed your cards, and equipped gear so you are ready to perform actions).

2) You've not yet done any "end of turn" triggering abilities or otherwise had your turn forcibly ended (you're defeated, or you just stood up). In other words, '1' and '2' together mean you're in your perform actions step of your turn.

3) You're not in the middle of another action (since actions that aren't move actions can't be interrupted.)

Looking specifically at "channeling", since you can discard images anytime during your turn, yes- so long as it is actually your perform actions step and you're not interrupting something else, you can throw away an image token regardless of whether you've performed 0, 1, or 2 actions. The same applies to suffering fatigue to gain movement points, using a stamina potion, etc.

And you can spend fatigue to move, and then use your 2 actions to attack twice, correct?

Yes

Thank you
