Anyone know which third party makes these templates?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

At a store championship last weekend, one of my opponents had a set of plastic templates with a very specific, very awesome marking tool. The 1-straight and 2-straights had notches cut into them, which made for easy marking when you need to move a small- or large-base ship. You just line them up directly in the front or back of the ship.

Unfortunately, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the manufacturer. Does anyone know the ones I'm talking about?

Litko? That's where mine are from.

There actually are a few manifacturers who do that, mine were made by Miracle-Versand.

This Etsy seller does them:

If I didn't already have a set of Team Covenant acrylics, these are the ones I would buy.

Wait. What's so cool about them?

I don't understand the notches thing. The 1-steaight is the same length and width as a ship base, so it functions perfectly for marking. I'm failing imagining how a notch would make this any better.

Makes it easier to line it up on all sides, sometimes there is no space left and right.

Just ordered a set of the imperial ones they look so beautiful can't wait to get them on the table.

Cog o Two are the only ones I've seen, but it looks like there are a few sites if you're in Europe. I'd shutter to think what the cost or delay would be if you're in NA.

Well, first you don't pay the VAT that's included in each price in Europe (so all prices are something like 19% lower). Shipping to the states runs around 8 dollars, and it takes about 7 - 10 days to arrive.

They have space for the nubs if you place it om the front or back of the ship.

Just place the template in the nubs like uou would yo execute a maneuver.

Still not seeing how this is beneficial.

It gives you another option. I don't use mine for your reasons, but they came with the range 1/2 rulers so I have them anyway!

I just appreciate the added precision for marking offered by these templates.

His do and they are awesome. I got some of the early ones that didn't have them and my buddy got some that do have them. They are great.

I've got a set from here, but the nub-holes aren't actually wide enough to fit the ship nubs inside of.

EDIT: I'd like to add that after seeing this thread, the guy who makes these offered a replacement. I bought them back when he started selling them, and it was likely just a slight defect. A+ for customer service.

after a game last week where my opponent was consistently off by an eighth inch or more when replacing marked ships, i would kill for something like this.

instead, I ordered the Applied Perspective corner markers, though: http://www.appliedperspective.com/acrylic/product/ship-placement-marker-pack/

Man I hate that stuff. There's a particular guy who uses soontir frequently and by the time he's done marking soontir before a lower ps ship moves through him, marking again yo move soontir, loose handling of both boost and barrel rolls, he can be off by like a half inch of where he should be, angled totally differently - usually to his benefit, of course.

There is going to be a little variance from time to time. I'm pretty clumsy and I always knock a ship every match it seems. I let the opposing player put it back to where they think it was. How many times have you have ships lined up parallel and after a few straight moves they are converging on themselves? Happens a lot. However, if you suspect someone being sloppy to the point they are trying to maintain an advantage, I would probably call someone on that.

There will probably be a lot of variance if you're playing on the official maps, as those things are like playing on oil.
