Do i need to have stresshog?

By TerTer, in X-Wing

Now as much as i read, all go, get stresshog into your list. Drop that and get stresshog. Dont forget best thing stresshog. Do rebels really need the stresshog? As i find it good piece, but is that needed? Is it that important in list building?

Yes.

Sincerely, FFG Money Counting Department

You can win with anything if you can keep them in your arc and stay out of theirs ...

The stresshog is really good, though. If you don't know what to do with your remaining points after you've taken the pilots you really want, slap a stresshog in there.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is still no, but with the caveat that it is indeed a powerful ship that you should consider having a counter/strategy for if you go to a tournament. Still doesn't mean you need it in your own list.

Depends on the list. Many will get exponentially better with a Stresshog instead of other filler.

Nope

Heaver was the proponent of must have stressy, and it's been parroted to hell

Still, if you like RNG independent results and have issues with palp aces, stressy's your guy

If you hate TLTs, though, you're better off with integrated Biggs or two talas

Personally prefer stress because dice are the devil and r3a2 is a pure cherub of dice independent mechanics, but each to his own (Biggs is also very troll; good counter tech to stressy)

I see every other thread someone talks about stresshog for some reason. Can't blame a guy for asking about it, chuckles.

No. I am yet to put on in a rebel list have not found the need for one. If I want to give out stress ill take tactician.

Build your list with out one and show them you can hand them there hat without it.

You NEED the stresshog in the same way that you NEEDED a fat turret this time last year. They're really strong ships and the meta is full of them; but that doesn't mean you need to fly them. There are plenty of options out there, and sometimes, being a little less predictable will go a long way.

Yes, 5 of them. And you must provide proof that you own them at all times.

Thats why I cant find any Y-wings or Rebel Transports in the stores... stress hogs are always buy them out... hogging up the merchandize.

i've heard the term a lot. kinda get the concept but have no idea of the specifics. ya. I've never flown one. I think....

Nothing carries its weight more than the stresshog point for point in the rebel fleet. It is a very potent and very cost effective ship and I doubt many people regret putting one in their list. Heaver considers it auto-include in every rebel list, and I think it's fair to say that he knows his rebel xwing lists.

If you're trying to be competitive at the tournament level you probably need a very good reason to not run one. If you just play casual then run whatever.

Nope, it is a pretty big waste of points to put in a list.

Sincerely, your local TIE patrols.

Anyone running Eaden Virll with stress bots... if he attacks a stressed ship with his primary weapon (2 dice) he gets to roll one additional attack die. He's in a TY-2400 at 32 points he's probably the cheapest 3 dice turret ship in the fleet. Han, Lando and Chewi are over 40 points and Dash is 36 but you have to put HLC on him and then you have his hole to worry about.

Interceptor pilots and Stresshog hate each other. Apart from that though, other imperial aces doesn't really give a ****.

Especially the manliest of 'em all, Colonel Broak Vessery. He laughs maniacally when stresshog is on the other side.

more like "only vessery doesn't give a ****"

Vader detests the thing, even moreso than soontir (shittier greens)

Whisper gets neutered as ACD is a free action

Vessery's white K and action independent abilities is just smooth sailing

You're right sir. I forgot that ACD is a free action. But for Vader, in the cases where he's stresshogged I'll just dart out of the scene for a bit and come back in the next round. Well I suppose the OGP got focus fired as a consequence.

And then someone gets smart and shuttles the emperor around in yorr's shuttle and suddenly whisper doesn't care about stress hog anymore.

No, no you do not. It is barely present in my local meta (think Ive seen it at one tourny...).

Fly what you like and disregard the "wisdom" that says it must be flown all the time, every time.

Yes you need a Stresshog. Not necessarily in your list though, as the people who say fly whatever you want are indeed 100% correct. It is however awesome for all the reasons already listed in this thread. What I want to add to the conversation is this- If you want to play competitively it is incredibly useful to familiarise yourself with the Stresshog and how it fits in with your playstyle and helpful to your opponents for them to earn some experience against it. I basically won a winter tournament at my non-regular flgs because none of my opponents were used to flying against Stresshog and proceeded to make bad choices in how they dealt with it, and at my local flgs I'm the only person flying stresshog regularly so I know a lot of folks are in for a similar experience when we get around to the Store Championship at the end of March. So Fly it, ideally Fly against it and then decide if its something you want to put in a list just like anything else in the game.

If you´re not running a rebel list that relies on regeneration or high-PS evasion as a win condition I think the stresshog is a very strong buy. You need something to counter Palp-Aces or other high-PS arc dodging lists. The thing about the stresshog is that it´s really just spending 2 points on the bot. It doesn´t have to use it if it´s facing a list that doesn´t care about stress. The Y-wing with TLT and the title is a pretty good jouster with a good K-turn up its sleeve if it chooses not to stress. Its dial is not great but often it gets 3 attacks which makes up for missing actions because it doesn´t have enough greens to shed stress effectively (I´m talking post K-turn stress here).

The thing I like about the stresshog is that it has a pretty high skill ceiling. If you don´t play it well it sort of acts like a poorly played Biggs who dies right away. If played well with clever self-bumping and good screening the stresshog becomes the MVP.

In any case, it might be the least "risky" 26 points to spend in the game right now, hence the popularity.

Things to remember with the stresshog: overusing it and going too fast could give you 0 to 1 opportunity to shoot with it. Be careful, be deliberate. It's better being 1 turn late to combat then having no combat during the whole game with it. Self bump if needed.

Sometimes, you want to not use the stresshog on the first pass and reserve it for the post k-turn bunch of turns. It's highly dependant on rock placement and both lists that are used, of course.

Heaver's assessment of the stresshog was uttered at the end of Worlds 2015? I don't doubt the sincerity of the guy at all, but the game has already evolved and is set to turn over with wave 8. Tons of viable lists existed before the stresshog (wave 6 made it possible) and tons exists after as well. The game is much deeper than asking ourselves: stresshog or not?

Thanks all for answers :)

Is stresshog always a goldie with the works? I want to like Horton since he can shoot earlier and help push a little more damage through but what is the general consensus?
