Hello, I have a friend who is getting into X-wing. He wants to play imperial and seems to like to field multiple ships. I was recommending a tie phantom and a decimator so he could get right into it with a minimal monetary investment. We are not competition players, but I don't want to steer him toward any outdated ships. I told him to avoid tie bombers, old advanced, and probably the old ties as well. However I wanted to check with you fine people to see what you'd recommend as a good starter force to play out of the box. I'm not sure if he's going to get the starter box, since a few of our group already have the essential materials. However he could get started on a tie FO swarm.

The best purchase off the bat is a Tie/fo expansion. It will have the Juke/Comm Relay and Omega Leader. Kind of hard to make recommendations after that for me but OL is a given pretty much, especially considering he comes with the upgrades you will use.
