A couple weeks ago I reached out on here for some noob advice, having not played the game before, and then I rushed off to play in a store championship.

Nice write up... I appreciate the candour!!! As a newb myself I can't help but laugh at some if the blunders I make... good show!!
Nice writeup and perspective with a great attitude. Way to jump into the deep end. Sounds like you learned some great lessons and improved from game 1 to game 3 since your gladiator got into the fight with the right timing.
Game 1 was a common mistake that everyone has made. Splitting your forces and running through squadrons. People don't appreciate squadrons till it happens to them.
Game 2 (3) was another mistake that teaches people to plan utility commands like engineering and navigates (usually the latter) on turns 1 and 2.
Good write-ups! I hope you enjoyed yourself and come back with a better understanding of the game!
Edited by LyraeusNice report, I am new as well and its good to see some reports from a less experienced player. Top 8 is a good finish... You borrowed ships so after playing what are you thinking in terms of building your own fleet. ?
I won't be buying into Armada. I already spend too much money on X-Wing and Imperial Assault, both games I enjoy much more. I touch on some reasons Armada doesn't quite do it for me in the next episode of The Jodo Cast (hopefully will be out within the week....).
I will gladly borrow more stuff from people and play, but I can't justify buying in at this point right now.
Which is perfectly acceptable.
At least you gave it a red-hot go before you made that decision.
Its of course, not for everyone... But its a refreshing show of respect to see someone who does give it a shot, regardless of the end result.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
No problem. I had fun and learned more about the game. My mission was a success.
Hopefully this thread will encourage newer players to try out Store Tournaments for themselves and learn to enjoy the experience.

PS I would like to say that you guys over here on the Armada boards seem much more civil than the X-Wing boards. At least in this thread.
Thanks for your feedback and for reading the article. ![]()
Armada is a slower, more relaxed version of SW space action, perfect for civilised people to have a relaxed game over several hours.
X-wing is fast, furious and definitely more appealing to people with a similar character who can't sit still for the time a game of Armada takes.
This may or may not be taken in the light that I am extremely biased towards Armada, I love the game! ![]()
Thank you for the report, RogueLieutenant. I enjoyed reading it a great deal
FYI the latest episode of The Jodo Cast is up, in which I discuss my experiences at the Armada store championship. Since I lay it out in the article, I spend more time in the episode discussing some of the things that fall short for me with Armada.
