How much offense is "enough"

By Mezegis, in X-Wing

I believe that TLT's are the gold standard these days to consider if your offensive power is enough or not. Can you burn through 4 Y-wings before they burn through you? That's the trick.

Fat Han was good due to arc dodging and dishing out consistent damage from 2 ships while not taking much in return. TLT's pretty much negate the arc dodging aspect of Fat Han and turns a 2 ship list like that pretty obsolete. I say "Amen".

Man I don't know what charm win'd need to beat down aggressors with ac advance. I have two most shameful games where they couldn't even touch poe and had To run the clock for a mod win.

"Bobby Knight told me this: 'There is nothing that a good defense cannot beat a better offense.' In other words, a good offense wins."

Former US Vice President Dan Quayle

Not sure quoting Dan Quayle is the way to ever win a discussion, but the comment about offense wins games is not lost.

As previously mentioned, number of dice is only part of it. Its also the quality of the attack through one or more modifiers. Also two hlc attacks can usually do more damage than four 2 dice attacks, even though the number of total dice are the same for both.

I have always wondered how you treat turret attacks. An ion turret is technically 3 red dice, but you can only do one max damage.

Can you hit Stealth Soontir and can you burn through TLT's faster than they can burn through you? That's all you need.

How about this for AC advanced?

4 AC Tempests (84 points)

4 Guidance Chips (0 points)

1 Thread Tracer (1 point)

3 Homing Missiles (15 points)

100 points

You see these guys coming, you better pray to whatever mystical energy field you believe in that the Thread Tracers don't hit.

It's no so much the number of red dice I am concerned about when I list build. I am usually more concerned about how much I can modify those red dice.

Rolling Reds is good.

Modifying Reds is way better.

Might as well go for the far cheaper bombers

x1s are tougher and can fight once their tubes are empty.

But scimitars get more missiles for cheaper (24 for homing + tracers + extras)

"Gee, bomber, how come palpatine let's you have TWO missiles?"
