Price Check: Firespray-31 Pilots (Imperials and Scum)

By DagobahDave, in X-Wing

Continuing our series where we re-evaluate the points costs of cards in the current meta, one card category at a time. Just copy the list and insert your own point values.

If you find a card on the list that you have never been interested in taking in competition because it seems too inefficient or too situational, consider the point value that would convince you to try it in a competitive squad and write in that value.

I think they're all overpriced by about two points, the generics perhaps by three.

Imperial Firesprays seem a little out-creeped at the moment.

Triple Bounty Hunters probably wouldn't be overpowered with one good upgrade apiece. Krassis would be worth 34 with an EPT, but doesn't have it. Kath's ability isn't very tempting, but her PS and EPT are worth a bit. Boba's PS is worth it, but his pilot ability is underwhelming.

I don't care if triple Mandalorians is broken, I wants it. Emon needs a break to help pay for more bombs.

Across the board I'd drop the Imperial FS by 2 points and the scum ones by 1.

The scum one's just have better abilities and crew options. Also, the Illicit slot is pretty good.

It's not the price that matters, it's the conditions.

Slap almost every "fix-it" title out there and they will rock.

double mod? Hello, tlt, taste the rainbow AT!
double ept? Who wants to get a taste of VI PTL Fett?
A sensor slot? Sweet Jesus, YES!
Torpedo buttplug with negative cost? Yeah!

anything xD

The limited slots and the almost requirement to add something to most of the Firesprays means they really need bring something special to the table for their cost. For the Empire it's pretty dire; Defenders offer most of what the Firespray does on a small base outside of the crew slot. I don't think scum are as bad off but, again, they pretty much require you to buy in to more upgrades to be effective. Overall I think Scum just lack the small ship support a good firespray build needs but since each have an EPT (Emmon needs bombs) and Illicit you'll pretty much never see them run at their point cost (I don't think triple Mando's would be any better off than triple BH's in empire right now.

I agree with this.

30pt bouty hunters? I dunno, it would lead to this kind of thing...

Bounty Hunter (32)
Firespray-31 (30), Tactician (2)

Bounty Hunter (34) x2
Firespray-31 (30), Tactician (2), Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

Eh. That's an inferior copy of Danger Zone / Panic Attack (can't double stress independently, no turrets, less health). Wouldn't be an issue.

Adding tactician to 3 BHs isn't going to take the world by storm. 3 BH hasn't been strong in like 6 waves now. I'd we worried about what you could do with the remaining 38-40pts after 2 naked. If that's not scarier then 31 or 30 might not be low enough.

Isn't Tactician Limited now?

Edit : my bad, I just checked, I thoug "limited" was for multiple occurences in the list, not in the ship.

If they were 30 pts, RecSpec all day.

If they were 30 pts, RecSpec all day.

I think that's the point. That is pretty much what the firespray needs to be able to do for its points: can modify both offensive and defensive rolls, good hp (low actually), big coverage with dual arcs... I would like it if the Firespray-31was 31ots but the more I fiddle with the builds, that still doesn't quite do it for me. I'd definitely run one more often but I don't think triple BH + 3pt crew of choice and a single or init bid would be broken for the empire, nor would crackshot/glimmerstim mando Mercs blow past bro-bots in scum.

At 31 points you could still fly 2 respec Firesprays.

A third you could not fit in (unless a different/cheaper crew/upgrade) but with 32 points you could easily fit in some other goodies.

Even Vader with ATC and 2 pts ept (or less ofc) is a possibility.

Anyhow. Not gonna happen. (unfortunately)

I would give Imperial Firesprays a title that gives a -2 squad point Cost to any single upgrade card they equip.

I think I would call it "Imperial Armament", and base its logistics on the Bounty Hunters bargaining with the Empire for supplies/Weapons as part of their contract.

I dont want cheaper naked Firesprays. I want more room to run them WITH COOL UPGRADES.

Personally, I think Bounty Hunter + Tactician is a great ship, capable to out play most non PWT ships. I dont know if ill ever run that pilot without Tactician. It would just be nice to run that same build at 33 pts.

That's actually pretty clever

Firesprays are still my favorite ship in the game. And I keep running them for better or worse.

Though it's gradually getting tougher with all the great ships in this game, especially when many get fixes to make them better.

There has been a lot of ideas thrown around for fixes. I think pricing is pretty fair for what you get, I'd rather get some kind of upgrade.

When you compare them to the aggressors it's just not even fair. Aggressors get boost, can take auto thrusters, have 3 agility, and the system slot. Plus a pretty good dial that's arguably better.

Only thing firesprays have better is the crew slot and the rear arc. A second crew slot would be great, or being able to have auto thrusters.

How about a title that lets them fire cannons in their rear arc.

Yah, when we've run campaigns the Imperial Firesprays can get "Imperial Contract"- title, 2pts, you may buy secondary weapons at half their usual cost. Makes the BH pretty nice with a cheap cannon, bomb, or missile. Essentially frees up enough points that you can actually fill their secondary slots and afford crew without eating up close to 50pts.

We also did:

Prisoner Transport Retrofit, title- Free. You lose your Missile, Cannon, and Bomb slot. Gain a second crew slot. Increase your hull and shield value by 1.

It played really nice. 12hp firesprays with some of the crew combos were definitely competitive. We had a crew that allowed you to get 1 use of other rebel only crew that was powerful and thematic. Don't remember exactly what it did.

PALPSPRAY 2016

A 2nd crew slot for the Firespray at the expense of certain other slots?

fine. But give the crew slots a cap of -say- 3 points each max.

I always have been partial to a bounty hunter title allowing them an ept. 1 pt only ept though.

I love that title idea. I wouldn't be TOO worried about it being a palp carrier as it's much more expensive than a shuttle so it would hard to run two elite aces with it still.

It COULD make triple bounty hunters a bit strong though. Maybe make the title 2 points instead of free. Still a great deal to get a shield, hull, and crew slot for 2 points. Would give my scum lists some real strength.

41 point naked BH Palpspray

59 point Kenirk
