Alternate Soundtracks

By Sam Tomahawk, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

This weekend for the game I host I will be quietly swapping out my normal Star Wars OST for the 1977 "Star Wars and other Galactic Funk" album and studying its effects. I suggest everyone else do the same... for science.

That said, does anyone have and particular soundtrack they like to set for their games? I know, of course the soundtracks for the 6 core Star Wars films never get old, but I'm talking about alternate cuts, personal preferences, and non-standard fare.

What do *you play during your game?

I'm more of an RPG guy, so I'm used to putting music in as part of the setting. For Star Wars, I've been known to drop in some Europop as cantina music; no-one understands the words, so it doesn't matter whether it's Serbian or Huttese.

I've also pulled John Williams' compositions from other movies. The look of confusion, followed by delight, when the "Indiana Jones" theme plays during a fight scene is priceless. :D

My favorite thing to listen to when playing Star Wars table games is "The Planets, Op. 32, a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst". John Williams used it as inspiration when composing Star Wars. Just listen to "Mars, the Bringer of War":

You'll hear what I'm talking about.

There's a 3 hour block titled "X-Wing Battle Music" that I found here or in the Armada forums. It's also very good for anything Star Wars.
