Wave 10: Let Us Make Some Intelligent Speculation

By PaulTiberius, in X-Wing

I'm just excited by the strong implication that there are new ships in Rogue One, given how few there were in TFA.

Yep, and original trilogy era ships at that.

I still think TIE Avenger and Assault Gunboat have a shot for Imperial

I Still think Dunelizard and either a Krayt or Kimo (or one with a title to other) have a shot for Scum
.

The DX-9 is officially canon and a great alternate to the space cow for Imperial, still would like that.

I've just got no idea what rebels are gonna get... T-wing or R-41 maybe? (with scum also getting it?)

We've already got Emon. Ace and Aeron would be nice...

I dont think Rogue One takes place far enough before ANH for a pre T-65 to make sense. In ANH the T-65 was already outdated.

Where is it stated anywhere that the T-65 is outdated by ANH?? If it is, the TIEs must be REALLY outdated, as it mows through in both IV and VI with ease.

Considering Emon is Scum, it's likely the Otana would be Scum as well, though I wouldn't be surprised to see Ace in an X-wing (maybe Rebel Vets?)

How can we speculate on Wave 10 when we have no idea whats in Wave 9?

Even if the Wave 10 has Rogue One ships, it will probably not be of only Rogue One ships.

Honestly, I'm really hoping the Z-95 shows in that movie. It's the perfect X-Wing predecessor.

And I prefer they canonize EU stuff instead of create yet another Rebel ships or new TIEs (we don't need new TIEs, there are plenty in the old EU).

Outdated? Wasn't the X-Wing superior to anything the Rebels or the Empire could field at the time?

I am fine with a new TIE, prototypes are developed and dropped all the time and most EU designs aren't too impressive. The Z-95 is already canon, as there was a squadron of them in the Clone Wars cartoon (led by Plo Koon I believe). Would be cool to see an official realistic version of it in rebel hands.

IT was revealed... somewhere... that Rogue One will have YET ANOTHER brand new tie varient. The source is quoted as saying "I think the fans will like this one", but confirmed it was not anything from the EU.

Just when I thought I had seen all the ugly Ties....

How can we speculate on Wave 10 when we have no idea whats in Wave 9?

Well I thought I laid that out pretty clearly in my OP.

My invitation to speculate on Wave 10 is based purely on speculating about the movie Rogue One.

I HIGHLY doubt Wave 9 will have even a glimmer of Rogue One elements. Yeah, Wave 8 is horrendously late, but their intention was to have it out around the beginning of 2016. Which leads us to conclude that the intention for Wave 9 (no matter how late it actually appears) is to release mid-2016 (hence a likely avoidance of Rogue One spoilers). Which allows us to reasonably peg Wave 10 as the "Rogue One wave".

I only leap two waves ahead because we have new hints from yesterday's Alex Davy podcast that allows us to do so without completely spinning off into flights of fantasy. (Pun intended.)

I'd be ok with a new TIE Variant as long as it adds something new. The punisher for example really was just a bomber on steroids. a Recon TIE would be more interesting. Ultimately though i'd like to see more of the "support ships" of the Imperial navy. The Sentinel, the DX-9, the Escort shuttle. Gunships.

The Gunboat of course is in this niche too, as as the Avenger but they are there from the 90's era EU, where I've flown them in countless campaigns against pirates and rebel scum. Mentioning the Gunboat and Avenger in these threads now is truly redundant, because we all know it's out there. This said, this thread is kinda redundant. The same predictions are all being made each wave.

R-41s. Twings. Gunboats, Otana Avengers, the Duny/Kimo/Ricksyck/Krayt.

Action IVs... Muurians maybe.

We mostly want them.

FFG Know we do.

I'm sure they got their reasons.

So let's look at the rarer, more unique ships that might show up.

Having just dipped my toe into the suspect waters of Wookiepedia, I see that the T-65s at the Battle of Yavin are called T-65B's. So there was a T-65A it seems. Perhaps a little less technologically advanced. Maybe no Astromech yet?

I could imagine a T-65A title card that, say, eliminates the Astromech slot, and simply reduces the cost substantially to near Z-95 levels.

Rebel (regular "space bus" looking one) and Scum (modded sloped Hutt version) Gozanti transports.

The Twilight from CW. You can see them in the background all over the place as freighters.

A Pelta-class frigate.

One of the transpo landing shuttles from Rebels.

Dare we hope for an Arquitens?

These ships must make it into the next 3 waves, since they are the "new" stuff from the movies and Rebels show:

Upsilon Shuttle

TIE/sf

Resistance Transport

New Falcon (Notice at the end of TFA- it looks painted/repaired/upgraded, not just the square dish)

T-85 Xwing

Shadow Caster

Wookiee Gunship

Gauntlet (1 Man) Fighter

Star Jewel -Epic

Stolen (Sabine's) TIE

Mining Guild TIE

Hammerhead Corvette -Epic

(and whatever unknown new ones from Rogue One.)

Wookiee Gunship is a realistic possibility and certainly a good one to add.

Rebel retrofitted LAAT is another.

I like ths LAAT too....

I forgot to include the Republic (Nu-class) Assualt Shuttle from last week's Rebel episode. Cham Syndulla had a TIE Bomber docked to the belly.

My guess is Wave 10 will have the Rebel Vets pack. Something to help "fix" X-wings since T-70 are just better right now. With Rouge One being all bout dat X-wing it would seem fitting to include one in pack or drop in some upgrades/titles to get them up to snuff with all the others.

Rogue squadron title for an x-wing is a gimme.

If we're going with Rogue One as Wave 9, Rogue squadron (according to current canon) wasn't formed until after A New Hope, so why is it a gimme?

No doubt I would love a Rogue Squadron title for the T-65, I'm just not following the logic.

Timeline is so jumbled now that who knows when the start of the rogues is in the new canon...

My reasoning is two-fold though.

1) They share a name. Tenuous link maybe but the closest I think we'll see unless an x-wing is part of some 'rebel vets' type expansion.

2) There is an x-wing in the promo shots with a black/white (I think) paintjob

Addendum: I also think it unlikely another set will be released with a T-65. It would then be a ship available in 3 sets - core, x-wing expansion and transport. How many different versions do we need?

Well, the Game is called X-Wing....

Yeah I could definitely see Rogue One re-writing our perception of Rogue Squadron's history and then retcon that Red Squad in ANH was just a code name for Rogue or something...

Except new canon books and comics have Wedge and Luke continuing working together in Red Squadron after Yavin. Rogue Squadron doesn't exist until later.
