WHAT SHOULD I BUY NEXT?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

So every few weeks I like to buy myself a ship, and I'm currently into all three factions. The next ship I'm getting is going to be the Ghost, for sure, but other than that I'm wide open. I'd like to build all three factions equally if I could. That means I should probably get another Scum ship, but which one?

I know some of these ships can swap factions, but here's what I have and how I have them divided up:

REBELS:

1 Y-Wing

1 T-65 X-Wing

1 T-70 X-Wing

1 K-Wing

1 E-Wing

1 Millennium Falcon

1 Ghost + Phantom (soon)

SCUM:

2 Z-95 Headhunters

1 Y-Wing

1 HWK-290

1 Firespray

1 Kihraxz Fighter

IMPERIALS:

2 TIE Fighters

2 F/O TIE Fighters

2 TIE Interceptors

1 TIE Defender

1 TIE Punisher

1 TIE Phantom

Oh - and don't tell me to buy the Gunboat or TIE Avenger either.

Since you have interceptors and want to buy a scum ship, the Starviper is probably a good choice as it includes Autothrusters. That'll mean you have that ship and what you need to really fly the Interceptor.

TIE Bomber? Got to be prepared for Imperial Vets.

That's what I was thinking too, because that ship is just awesome looking if nothing else (my wife calls that one the "butterfly ship"). Scum ships look the best in my opinion.

Has your wife seen MacrossVF1s Starviper repaints?

Either get the Starviper, or get Imperial Aces. Aces gives you Interceptors, plus some really nice upgrade cards (Push the Limit, Twin Ion MK II, Hull upgrade, Shield upgrade, plus the Interceptor title, as well as a few more useful goodies). Starviper gets you autothrusters, plus some nice scum only upgrades.

Twin Ion Mk II came with the TIE Punisher.

When I win the MegaMillions jackpot, I am getting 12 to 24 of every expansion. I like full squadrons and full 36 ship fighter wings sounds like a lot of fun too. Then I am getting about 50 play mats in 3X3, 4X4 and 3X6 sizes and designing a campaign where each mat is a separate star system. The 3 factions are fighting for control of the galaxy and when you win on a certain may you own that system. It won't just be about 100v100 matches but instead you will have to assign patrols, leave garrisons and plan assaults.

It is gonna be so sweet.

But I digress.

If you want to get Scum to even out your squads, the large Scum ships are pretty cool models and come with good upgrades. I like the Hounds Tooth if you want to get 1 ship, but if you want to buy 2 then go for double IG-2000's.

If you decide Rebels, get the K-Wing for TLT's and extra munitions.

If yo decide Imps, go with Aces.

Actually, either core set is a good buy as it is 3 ships for a little less, more dice, more templates and gets your Ties fighters up to swarm levels.

Seems like others have already been my top two suggestions given. So I'll just vote for them again.

I say either the Starviper or the Bomber.

Starviper is a great choice and gives buffs to Imperials and Scum.

The Jump Master is also going to come with a slew of cards that will make almost every ship in the Scum faction more powerful.

The Tie Advanced Prototype is also not a bad choice -- you get Guidance Chips and a cheap / effective Imperial Ace.

The game is so wide-open right now that you can't go wrong with any choice you make.

Lots of good suggestions, many of which I agree with. If I were to make a list I'd say:

IG 2000 (2x would be better)

YY2400 (Dash)

Star viper

Imperial Aces

Hounds tooth

Perhaps the main question is if you proxy or not the upgrade cards

If not, you need a Star Viper, and ASAP. Fly 3 factions means As and Interceptors. You need ATs

If you proxy ( and with a decent printer is a wise option ) there are plenty options. I like Y 666, big ship, 40 pts, looks awesome, not a bad ship to fly. The Imp aces ships are very, very good looking.

To exploit the Agressors you need two. Ugly and costly ships, 60 pts a pair. Better options to invest in your fleet.

I don't proxy upgrade cards, but that's not a huge deal because the only people I play with only use my collection. No arms race against a friend or whatever.

I do have the TIE Punisher and Imperial Aces - great purchases, love the variety and PTL is so fun.

I just traded and got a B-Wing (I would have gotten something Scum but that was all he had) - and in a week or two I'll get the Ghost. Compared to the other factions, my Rebels will seem a little stacked.

I am really leaning toward the Jumpmaster, it's got Boba Fett AND guidance chips!

But, maybe I could get the StarViper and the TIE Advanced Prototype... but the prototype seems meh. Does it seem meh to you guys?

I know it's not Scum, but an Imperial Decimator is a lot of fun to fly. It provides a very different feel to the typically fragile TIEs, and suits a good variety of play styles. Besides, it would be a balance for your (soon to be) two large Rebel ships.

The TIE Advanced Prototype seems really "meh," to me, especially compared to the other Wave 8 ships. I think the Inquisitor will be the only pilot seeing any use, and the tracer ordnance looks like a huge waste of time. Still, I'll reserve full judgment for when I have one in hand and have actually played with it.

My aim is 1 of each, past that I would ask if your playing for fun or Torny, as it would give you different directions. Fun is just whatever you want, what you like to fly. Torny is what is the meta do you have the cards from the epic ship so forthwhat not.

without doubt buy 1 extra dice pack.

This comes up often enough that it occurred to me a while back that it would be nice if there were an automated way to answer it. I'm not a coder, but it seems like it would be simple enough to do.

First, you'd have several categories from which people would select desirable qualities:

* Mobility: High, Average, Low.

* Size: Large, Small, (Huge).

* Tournament Competitveness: Uncompetitive, Casually Competitive, Highly Competitive.

* Appearance: Iconic, Star-Wars-y, Offbeat.

* Swarminess: Dual-build, 3-5 Build, Swarms.

* Customizability: Many Upgrade Slots, Average Upgrade Slots, Few Upgrade Slots.

* Straightforwardness: Tricky, Average, Simple.

* Agility: High, Medium, Low.

* Damage Capacity: High, Medium, Low.

* Attack: High, Medium, Low.

* 360-Capability: PWT, Turret Slot, No Turret.

* Faction: Imperial, Rebel, Scum and Villainy.

Perhaps a few other categories. Released ships could be tagged with these categories (with redundancy and overlap). Once the form was filled out and submitted, it would return ships that match, along with relevant data.

Seriously, excellent idea.

More defenders!!!

To answer the OP's question, the obvious ship missing from Scum is the Aggressors, and you can't only buy one Aggressor, so ...

Dual-Aggressors ("Brobots") is a high-skill-ceiling archetype that is a lot of fun to play. (Personally speaking, I also have fun playing against them, but YMMV.)

Another vote for the brobots here but if you only buy 1, I have seen an IG and Firespray combo flown well

Buy me the Gozanti!

More defenders!!!

I know! Defenders are so much fun! I'm going to hold off and get Imperial Veterans though.

Definitely won't get two Aggressors, but I'll know I'll get one eventually.

Aggressors, Jumpmaster, or Starviper....

I don't know yet if it's worth getting two packs of imp vets.

I do know three defenders it's a strong list with the titles so whichever way you go you'll want to fly a trip D list.

Must buy them. Must buy them all. Need more shipses, precious.

You can never go wrong with moar dakka, get more TIE fighters.
