Help! I'm stuck.

By Artoo, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I thought I had a great idea for an adventure. I was going to have my PCs go to Manaan and try to secure kolto exclusively for the Rebellion. See, the Rebellion heard a rumor that the Selkath had, after all these years, refined and improved the process of amking kolto into a healing solution. The PCs were to try and investigate this rumor and if it's true, try and secure a secret, exclusive supply line of it for the Rebellion.

But now that I sit down to try and flesh out this adventure, I'm at a loss as to how to go about making it happen. What kind of encounters or obstacles do you think would be fun for such a scenario?

Nothing worse than a droid with writer's block.

Political intrigue would be my take. The ruling faction got that way b/c of industry X which is not Kolto. The factions that farm and produce kolto have been financially over taken, and now Kolto is rare. In order to get Kolto produced you have to help a support a coup. On the other hand the governing faction which controls industry X (could be drugs, weapons, spices, blue fin tuna, whatever makes money) says hey help us eliminate Kolto farmer leaders and finish "buying" them out and we give you a cut of our weapons/drug money/blue fin tuna.

You could always have the PC's need to convince the head scientist to allow his product be used for a military purpose.

The PC's would need to convince the head Diplomat first of the Rebellions just cause, and once done, have the lead scientist in charge of the process' discovery take offense to his government taking something he intended for peaceful civilian use on his homeworld and instead giving it to a group that is (by popular media) nothing more than terrorists.

Things get compounded by the presence of an ISB agent who had been surgically modified to appear as Selkath acting as the scientist's aide. His mission demands that he steal the technology for the Empire, who have no interest in using a military presence to get something that would be nice but not vital to the Empire's condition. If the PC's manage to convince the scientist that they deserve the process for the Rebellion, then his "assistant" murders him that night (before he can make his intentions clear to anyone else) and frames the Rebels for his murder.

The climax of the adventure involves the PC's uncovering the plot, proving their innocence, and getting the process for the Rebellion.

There are a million different ways you could go about this one. First thought, is that the rumor is more widespread than the RA made out and other factions are also trying to acquire the secrets. Empire would be a given, but other factions could include criminal organizations, like the Black Suns, Zan Consortium, Hutts, or even ones you make up yourself.

Second you could do a space encounter with one of the factions, especially, if the group fails an astrogation check to get there, just to throw in some space combat. Other encounters include, infiltration of the base where this kolto is being produced, big showdown with all the factions fighting for kolto connect meeting up at the same place, same time, trial with Manaan authorities if the PCs are caught doing something illegal, and a rescue mission to free the Selkath scientist who makes the new kolto.

Hope this helps and it is a really good plot for a campaign!

Awesome. I really like the idea of multiple organizations showing up at the same time. Thanks!

Well, you could steal a page from Goldfinger/A View to a Kill, where someone is plotting to blow up and/or render the kolto useless so their own supply signifiantly increases in value.

Oooo, I like this too. Like the big corporation that produces bacta wants to make sure that kolto cannot muscle it's way back into the galactic healing market.

Core books have a very good tutorial how to build an adventure. Think about couple of scenes that form the rail on which the adventure is build, with an opening and climex. Also thonk what challanges are in each scene.
