Focus token question

By DJensen, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have a couple of questions regarding ships with multiple focus tokens.

1) Can a player use more than one focus token in a single combat phase? For example, use one to modify their defense dice and then another to modify their attack role or a subsequent defense roll from another attack.

2) Can a player use more than one focus token in resolving a single attack? I had a situation come up where the Moldy Crow used a token to turn a focus to an evade and then the attacker used Juke to turn the evade back into a focus. In this case, could the defender have used another focus token to get turn the focus back into an evade?

Thanks for clarifying this.

Yes. There's actually nothing stopping you from using multiple focus tokens on the same roll, although unless you have something like Calculation, there's no point to doing so.

Your premise is wrong, because those abilities were used out of order. Whenever a player rolls, the other player gets the first opportunity to modify dice. It goes like this:

(1) Attacker rolls dice.

- (a) Defender modifies attack dice.

- (b) Attacker modifies defense dice.

(2) Defender rolls dice.

- (a) Attacker modifies defense dice.

- (b) Defender modifies defense dice.

(3) Compare results.

So the Moldy Crow rolls its green dice, and the attacker activates Juke. Then the defender has the chance to spend a focus token to change all [focus] results into [evade] results, including the result changed by Juke.

1. Yes.

2. ERROR. While it may be possible to spend multiple Focus tokens as part of an attack (say one to fire a Blaster Turret, one to use Calculation, and a third to turn any remaining eyes into hits) the other player modifies dice first. If you roll Defense your opponent would have to use Juke before you would need to do anything more to the dice; if the opponent passes (or can't) modify a person's rolled dice there is nothing they can do after the roller modifies them assuming the opponent was given the opportunity first.

Thanks again.
