The future of Armada...

By PsykoPenguin, in Star Wars: Armada

40k had the worst release schedule for the longest time. Several of their armies had no gotten updates in 40k for YEARS!!!

I still need to get Rebellion off of Gog. . .

Every time a 40K player grumbles about their release schedule, a Fantasy player curses them in High Bretonnian or Dark Khazalid. Tis the natural order of things, and the curse of the Fleur De Lis de Nottingham.

... Rebellion's on Gog? Might be just the tonic to the bitter reminder that I have Panzer General II's CD, and no compatable computer to play it on.

Yeah Rebellion was literally the first game I ever got on GOG and Panzer General II is on GOG as well.

No I don't still have the CD for Rebellion in my pile of old computer games stuff!!! Yeah... :D

I used to have Civ I on the floppies some time ago. I think my dad killed the disks from playing so much. He still holds a place in many of my friends hearts for playing it on Deity with regularity. And winning.

Does anyone else get a unsettling feeling over the fact that its been almost 5 months since there has been any kind of announcement on wave 3 of Armada? I'm getting the feeling they may discontinue it seeing as it seems they've put so much effort into X-Wing as of late... I mean, I could be wrong, and I really hope I am, it just gives me a bad feeling.

I don't find it unsettling but it is disappointing to me but that's just because I enjoy the game so much I want more to discuss and read about.

I don't think this gap in information has anything to do with discontinuing the game but rather making sure that for this wave, it will arrive on time before making announcements.

If I remember right, one of the FFG guys was talking about wave 3 or 4 in an interview at worlds. Seems odd to be discussing a future wave on a discontinued title. In addition to that, FFG also stated that armada was their largest selling title during gencon.

Pssh, y'all talking about enjoying video games that came out this century, and here I am playing Rebellion and Panzer General.

Also, after playing Warhammer and 40k for a decade, this release schedule doesn't bother me. In the ten years I played them, my Dwarf army was updated twice, and only two new units were ever added. Everything else was just updating points costs and rules to match the latest ruleset. My major gripe with the way FFG handles releases is that they announce them so goddamn far in the future. Armada was announced in August and came out in April. FFG, y u do dis? I heard about it and crapped my pants in excitement, then sat there in soiled pants for eight months. Kind of kills your enthusiasm. And your marriage. But mainly the enthusiasm thing.

Oh wow... Panzer General. Now there's a game I've not heard in a looong time. A looong time.

Excuse me, I think my afternoon just filled up...

I still love to boot that game up from time to time. So. . .many. . .hours.

So all in all, it could be a whole lot worse when it comest o FFG's releases. As the venerable serpent doth say, "Always look on the bright side of life." -whistles a bit-

You could use the Sylvan tongue, too. Wood Elves were a White Dwarf Special for years. Meanwhile, Space Marine players be like "I haven't gotten a new unit in six months!"

Yeah, GOG is a danger for me. I think I have my Panzer General II CD kicking around somewhere, too. Need to get a working copy of Allied General as well.

Oh, and any of you who are old GW fans like myself, Mordheim: City of the Damned is an aesthetically beautiful, fairly accurate video game adaptation of the game. I'm just hoping they add more war bands. I need my Dwarf Treasure Hunters!

If Armada stops now, I'm left with a great-looking board game that evokes everything I've always wanted Star Wars to be. My only regret would be that Admiral Piett missed the show.

If Armada stopped now, I'd never get the OP kit engineeting tokens to complete the set!

Seriously though, I think Armada still has a good run ahead of her. At least long enough to get the acrylic defence tokens ;)

I don't think we're getting those regardless. They switched league kits. Now it's all cards and a challenge coin. I doubt they're going to switch back for Summer or Winter.
